We all know, trainer opinions are like buttholes, we all got em'...they all stink.😂

But, overall, your synopsis was pretty much on the money.
I get as a pro who trains working dogs, your preference is a true working line. But, as more of a dog behaviorist who unfucks broken Shepherds raised by well intentioned, but woefully ill-equipped owners, I THINK "Pet Shepherds" deserve a bit more consideration for the average owner. The drive (and related exercise needs) of a working dog is more than most of my customers can provide.
A quality "pet line" is the winning formula for the average dog owner.

I do love your advice on meeting the bitch & sire. The best one I ever had was from a mom & pop breeder who was zero showline (at least visually) andci got to meet his parents. His dad was a strong male and his mom was a fur ball. I picked the medium temperament pup. I spent the next 11.5 years using him in my dog rehab biz. He was the most secure, calm, Alpha ever and a "people dog" but the first time he saw the guy in the bite suit, HE LAUNCHED.
Maybe I just got lucky. Maybe a pro raising a puppy was the secret. Maybe he was just an angel.
He died 5 months ago at nearly 12 yrs of age.

Ive been involved with the West German show lines for the past 25 years. Breeding objective was always to " put wolves into sheeps clothing"; so to speak. Both health & temperament were at the very top of my list when doing a breeding. When breaking down the different types; im so glad that you didn't lump the American Shepherds in with the West German Shepherds into 1 "show dog" group; BIG DIFFENCES between American vs West German lines! You were also right in saying the West German show lines have to get the exact same working titles as the working lines; Schutzhund, IPO & now IGP in order to breed, be shown or compete in IGP once the dog exceeds 24 months of age. I am migrating toward working lines for my next purchase; the whole show thing has become far too political and also 1 big money grab from beginning to end.

I was fortunate to find my Shepherd at 8 wks old, from a breeder's last litter. Black and Tan.
Absolutely straight back. He has German bloodlines, father is Thor Inzillo, Dam is Maggie May Inzillo, jumping back to great grandfather , father's side Nikko Von Mark. Jumping back to great grandmother mother's side Rascal Von Rambo. Just as an example. I do notice wolf behavior traits in him, most markedly. Largest male of the litter and hit close to 100 lbs in his prime. He's 11 yrs old now and doing great!

Thank you for such an informative video! I have a pet german shepherd mix that I rescued that I love very much. But my dream is to get a solid black working line one day so I am learning about them as much as possible now and preparing with as much training of my dogs now. Love all your videos!

All show lines of any species should be banned, show breeders are the lowest of the low, they think nothing of line breeding, have no regard for health conditions, euthanise pups with imperfections all for rosettes. You only have to look at the show line German Shepherd and it's tiny back legs and deformed spine to know this is one fkd up business. NEVER BUY FROM SHOW BREEDERS!

My dogs father is a west GSD his mother they know that she is a black working dog..my puppy is really small I've yet to see a GSD this small. But he is a savage..he doesn't like biting equipment..weird. but he is protection tested and is a monster in the apartment..I live in a dangerous neighborhood so he plays on a real play ground every day.

You find them in Europe, nog in the USA, like the mallinois you find in Belgium 😊
