Anyone know about the Winchester Model 71 in 348 lever action made from 1935 to 1958, , got some power there too,180, 200 or 250 grain silvertips Fun to shoot,, but the ammo is expensive and hard to find, it was totally meant for big game compete with the bolt actions in the model 70s

I recently got one, took it to the range, plinked around with it and fell in love. The recoil isn't bad at all. Some people claim it to kick like a frickin 50 cal rifle when in reality, from my personal opinion (and from some reviews I've read) it kicks about as hard as a 12 gauge. Hell my Ak47 kicks as hard as both the Henry rifle and a 12 guage shotgun, and the Ak hurts my shoulder! (Still love it of course) but I'm just saying. Great vid btw, guys.

I used to jack the lever as you, removing my trigger finger completely from the trigger guard. Then was shown what i found to be a better way, pushing the trigger finger to the front of the trigger guard as the remaining four fingers run the lever. Rather than removing the trigger finger completely from the trigger guard, operate the lever and then re-acquire the trigger. Just as long as i kept my finger pointed forward i wouldn't pinch it !

I may be moving to AK in the next year or 2. This is probably the way to go. The Marlins are big up there, and of course they make stainless. I have Marlins and Winchesters, so i am used to the side loading gate. But i am sure in can adapt. They make some sise gate models now too. I was a little disappointed not to see the peep sight on these. No big deal to put one on though. I woukd probably lean toward the Buffali Bore 405 gr JFN or similar, for a general purpose load (moose, bear defense, general woods use). They seem to do well. Second choice would be good 300 or 350 gr, like the Bear Claw or the Hornady FTX. More choices once i start handloading.

My dad has a 45-70 (it's a Marlin) and he got it all prepped up for hunting season to the point of putting a red dot sight on it. He shot it once and put it up never to be shot again. He's in his mid 80s and has suffered a few broken bones but he declared that there ain't nothing that needs that much killing in our neck of the woods (eastern Ga). I shot it a few times and I agree; I used my Marlin 44MAG to take deer for over 40 years before handing it down to my oldest son. I now use my Henry lever 357MAG or Savage 110 30-06.

If only that Winchester found in that canyon about 10 years ago had had the "All weather finish".

Of note, there are long plastic tubes that can be loaded up with ammo and have them drop into the tube magazine from above to act as a "speed loader". And by the time many see this video (I'm 4 years late) Henry has started putting side loading gates on their rifles for those who prefer this loading method.

I love the Henry rifles but the lack of the side loading gate really is a deal-killer

I just purchased this 4570 with the side gate loader 975 out the door.

The Henry’s lack that wholesome look that Marlin’s have!! And please Henry side gate only no one wants to have to slide out that fig a muh jig in the brush!!

Henry is just trying to copy the Marlin Dark Series!! Without the spider webbing over the paint!!

Pardon me Sir!! When emptying a Marlin by racking the lever, there is a crossbolt safety!! So please refrain from speaking falsehoods!! No one in the elements want to tube load and allow rain to enter the magazine. With the Marlin side gate loading you can turn the side gate toward the ground with no chance of water getting anywhere that would effect the ammo or action within the chamber!!

Where did he get that all weather. They don't make a model that doesn't come with a side gate? Unless they made it once and stopped selling it

If you ask me those are all fairly light or easy loads let me know when you actually get up to the standard 405 grain 45-70 load or start shooting some 430 plus p rounds then you can say that you shot a heavy load

Henry almost has it with the exception of their tacky looking triggers.
