Just thought I'd comment on him wondering if there are any Americans who live without electricity. There are actually a large number of people living "off-grid", especially in the 3 West Coast states. I lived for 5 years without electricity in a cabin in the mountains of Mendocino County, in Northern California. It was very comfortable, because the home was built to live in w/out electricity. We didn't have solar panels, a generator, or any other way of making electricity. We used wood for cooking, heating, & hot water, kerosene lamps for light, & a radio for occasional entertainment. Very peaceful, & I'm sorry I couldn't stay there. The only electric appliance I missed was a washing machine - it's the one thing that has no good non-electric options.
