It seems to start when one chimp (accidentally) hurts another when grooming her eye and both give a fear grimace. The first chimp then makes a gesture with her hands that I’m not sure how to interpret - it doesn’t look like an apology or an attempt to reassure. The second chimp obviously isn’t pacified by it and the squabble begins. Things escalate so quickly but often calm down again just as quickly. The young chimps are just play fighting, I think - and at the end of the video we see a chimp hugging her friend to give and receive reassurance, and then another chimp behaves submissively (though quite loudly) towards the one that approaches from the right. If anyone disagrees with my interpretation, please give us your thoughts too.

Don't know what it was but, if you watch closely. About two sec's before the ruckus. The chimp making all the noise, made a sign language gesture at the other. Chimps can mimic pretty good, but it's far from actual learning. Now macaques, not only understand. But can expand on it by themselves. Without suggestions or demonstration. Low intelligence is why chimps are easily frustrated, fight, and prone to violence.

This fight is quiet funny. The big female chimpanzee is one of the annoying ones in the group lol. I love how the other chimpanzees protect their young from the battle while the father just watches that fight.

A lot of those female chimps have some berserker in them.
