I was told as I was playing that people really hated the ending, a lot. After finishing, I was curious as to whether those people actually played the game or not, because I can see how in a vacuum people hear "Joel dies because he gets beat to death by this lady really early on and its pretty bullshit and at the end of the game Ellie fights the lady and lets her go, so she gets to get away." In a vacuum that sounds very terrible, but after playing the full game and seeing what they were going for and actually starting to sympathize with the character and actually give a shit, I didn't want her dead. I wanted her to find the fireflies and I wanted Ellie to stay on the farm with her wife and kid.
