How To Diagnose Power Window Problem - Is the Switch or Motor bad?

Great Video but I have an issue with calibrating the window up function. Every time I close the window fully it re-opens about half way. It is like it is going into anti-pinch safety mode each time I fully close the window. Any suggestions??

my 2003 ml350 drivers window goes down but not up. the motor is working, the switch is working, the glass is in the track. what could be wrong?

why is my car power windows working even when key is out ?

My problem is the main swich buttons will stop working on all windows and all door switches also, then it just starts working after fidgeting it for a while. The power lock keeps working though, and the windows are kind of slow. It's not the window lock switch is on. Any suggestions?

Even with new motor and regulator, the driver's window gets about 3/4 of the way up and drags real hard. What can it be?

U noticed two black and red wires on the passenger side and there taped together in the door pannel. How can I run new possibly compromised wire I'm the door jamb with no insulation on the protective weatherproof jackets on the booth sides. My passenger window won't go completely up and I have a 3/4" gap at the top of the window.i removed the passenger side switch and it just fell apart. I noticed there were some exposed wires. At least the two red and black wires going to the drivers side. I realize I have to install a new passenger side power window switch. Is there anything I can do install new wires from the passenger side controller to the drivers side. I have a 1998 Subaru forester and it working until about a week ago. Can any one please give me some options or remedies.. I'm afraid that each doojamb harness jacket has been compromised and I just don't know what to do. Anyone please, I need a miracle.

My switch works and motor works BUT when I get in in the morning and start truck to roll window down, I get nothing
I press switch to roll window up. Even though it is up already, then press down again and now window goes down. Issue is intermittent. Any ideas?

Can't watch this. The sounnnd! OHHH THE SOUND! Knowing that your garage echoes, how about using a different microphone?? Or some kind of attachment-gizmo that cuts out some of the unwanted noise, like wind and echo. Moving on.

Riddle me this.. on my 2006 lincoln town car I replaced the master switch and it works for 3ish months then goes dead again on the driver side door only. I've replaced the switch 3 times and same story works like new for a few months then stops all together.. have any tips? Might not get a response but thought I'd try.. im pulling my hair out 😂

The windows motor module its a bad unit of Volvo, then have power in too the module , but not power out from the module too the window switch, the sentral look does not work then , have Try it with a another motor with a another module with same problem

So, if you have power but it's showing on both side with just activating one side of the switch, then what?

My 1997 Ford Exploder front passenger window works fine from the driver side switch but does nothing from the switch on the passenger door. I assumed the switch was bad but new switch fails to move it as well. I'm guessing their is a bad wire somewhere but have no wiring diagram for this thing.

The odd thing is my switches make noise but the window won't move.

Hardest part about this is finding the wiring values and which wires are what. My wires are different colors and I can’t find the diagram online.

2002 Acura TL. Front passenger window. New motor and regulator works. Tested that. Fuse good for the window. Had everything tested by a friend. Bought new switch to see if that was the problem. Still won't work. Is there something I could be missing on this Acura? Thank you

Problem: using test light can kill the circuitry if smart switches/motors are involved. They can use 5 volt pulses to control with the phase of two pulse streams determining up/down. For such cars, a test light can't detect the trouble, but CAN cause a circuit to blow. :(

When i start my third gen 4Runner, all door windows will not work at all.... however, after 3 to 5 minutes after starting the engine the door windows will start working normally, it is just a matter of time.... Any idea on what may be happening?

I can hear a ticking sound from the passenger door panel and the window isn’t working. The switch seems good but the switch from the driver side is stuck. I feel it’s the motor so do I need to replace the motor and regulator or just the motor

2000 Chevy Tahoe front left window regulator and I'm on the second one and I have done the same tests you did!! still not working and I'm lost!!do I have a low voltage problem??

Replaced driver front regulator (kept the motor, it appeared to work with a bench test). After new regulator back in place, only "up" works, "down" doesn't! I have verified that there is power at the motor connector for both up and down... I'm baffled. Is there some sort of limit switcg/fuse inside the motor? (2002 Olds Intrigue)

Although if your cable has broken, or the plastic cable end holder broke, and subsequently the cable is jammed up in the spool, the motor will not "operate", since it can't force the jammed spool of cable. Just like when your come-a-long jams, and you have to take it all apart to reload the cable. So, not always is the motor bad.

In a pinch also try switching a Power Window Control Switch from the opposite working Power Window Switch. Example: Switch Driver's Side Power Window Switch with the Passenger Power Window Switch to see if you can close a window stuck in a down position. It might be just a faulty Power Window Switch that not working.

How would you check if you don’t have any switches

From my perspective, the hardest thing with the "easier" DIY auto self-repair jobs is usually getting access to the parts and then putting things back together. Broken glue seals, damaged gaskets/seals, damaged fasteners, not to mention just trying to figure out the disassembly and reassembly! :-b My window switch is not working. How do I get to it? I need to find that video, but I am dreading it will be involve taking gambles of the type that novices sometimes end up regretting.

Hi may I ask? The front passenger window of my car cannot be raised or lowered if the driver's window has not been lowered, so if the driver's window is still tightly closed I cannot lower or raise the front passenger window. I've checked the fuse still hasn't blown, I just replaced the window switch recently. Do you know where the problem is?

Would I need too pay $100 at Pep Boys for a diagnostic for this because I was charged a fee for that.
But when I went in I told the guy at the front what it was because I was informed already from a mechanic that had too put my windshield up for me. He told me I need the motor kit.

They told me a diagnostic for my entire car then the boss said no that’s just for the window,

If 3 windows work ( all work, EXCEPT the driver's window, ), would it be reasonable to check only if the driver's switch gets power.... if the driver's motor gets power...and forego the rest?

So the windows go down but won’t go up and non of the switches will work in the vehicle. Fuzes and everything are good but the passenger side window is very sluggish going up when all the windows did work.

Can a faulty motor on one side of the vehicle cause all the windows to stop working or is it something more serious.

On my 08 Accord the passangers window works fine but only from the Switch of door but it does not work from drivers máster control. I was thinking of there is a module in between the two of them. Dont know what to do...

i went to college for auto electric 2 years and passed a National Technician Auto Electric Certification and it was easy to pass if you know the answers... Haha,,, window electric problems is fun for me, made a ton of money doing repair on them and just love the hunt for the answer to the problem... but my real love is building Turbine gas engines, now thats where the real money and skill is,,, also using a test light can damage auto electric systems my friend so look out you should use a LED test light, in college we had to make one in the class to pass the course, yep look out for that LED test light for very low mA circuits... you just learned something.

I have a 2005 Impala. All the windows are stuck up. When I hit the driver's switch, up or down, it just buzzes, I changed out the entire switch panel and it was the same with a new switch. No other windows respond either. Can you tell what it probably is?
Is it likely to be the regulator, since no other windows work either?
