This book was a DNF for me. Got 21% in and I just couldn’t. It was too wordy for me and too much info that I couldnt remember. The part that u mentioned about the plague, lol I had forgotten! The book didn’t explain the “sickness”, just another example of extra crap that was thrown in there. Smh.

All over my TT is about how good this book is and the slump they got out of… I tried and felt lost for details the whole time.

The description of Kingfisher sounded so much like Adam Driver I had to check. Apparently the author used to write Reylo fan fic and published one of those fics under the name Frankie Rose. So much about this books shakeup world building and characterization make so much sense when viewed through the lens of it being thinly veiled Reylo fanfic. Thank you for doing this breakdown. It saved me from finishing this books.

Quicksilver is just another name for mercury. The plot is so shallow...I read several romantasies so far and Quicksilver done it for me, I put romantasy aside, every single one follow the same crappy line. Onyx Storm was horrible and this was equally bad...I switched to full fantasy now. I am so tired of 6 and 7 foot tattoed shadow daddies, of smelling the arousal and male/female, of the constant fuck/mine repetitions. Booktok is overhyping awefully writen books...publishing quality is declining and so are the reader's tastes for poorly researched and constructed plots and overused tropes.

I watch this video on long shifts at work, and every time I do it becomes more and more funny to me that I ever thought you had to think super hard and plan way out ahead to make sure a book was good enough to be published, because this book is such objective garbage that it's almost kind of sad that no one felt like putting the author on a better path of her craft by simply burning this manuscript after reading the first page. She couldve been better, but this is what her name is on now.... forever lmao

See I'm so goddamn disappointed because SOME tidbits of the story seem like they'd be really cool. But it's soooo sloppily put together, with most of the already very scant effort put into it being focused entirely on the absolutely derpy sexual stuff and on hitting the usual tired algorithm-friendly tropes.

If the book had taken the time to actually flesh out the setting instead of rushing to get to the fae beefcake, and of course if the dialogue and narration had been written with some thought put behind it instead of being the factory standard YA cringy-ass modern American speak, it really could've had potential.

34-ish minute: also may I say that I'm mildly peeved by how fae's "high woan" sign is long hair, the thing that's very shoveled at most of women as preferable in at least somewhat modern society

I am specifically peeved bc it's directed at fae women/females, I would've brushed past it if it was for everyone

Edit: also generally whole "mate" thing kinda gross. And that's coming from me, who holds the idea of soulmates pretty dearly, but there definitely no soul put into their bond so it's fitting I guess 😅

This is a book I would have thrown several times in rage.

My biggest gripe with the cover is it always talks about the quicksilver in his right eye but it’s coming out of his left on the cover

Just because I find stuff like that interesting: brand new probably comes from "fresh from the fire" - according to Wiktionary first cited in 1570! Which means nothing, since most of fantasy settings are "vaguely medieval" and therefore time sludge, but it fits the metal theme at least?
