The lungs do not convert oxygen to CO2, but rather engage in a constant cycle of gas exchange through the alveolar membranes. High concentrations of oxygen in the air and low oxygen in the blood creates a gradient that will try to equalize, causing oxygen to flow into the blood. The same applies for CO2, but in reverse. High concentration in blood, low concentration in air.

The air in your lungs will never ever be 100% oxygen or CO2. In fact, the breath you exhale is still mostly breathable air.
