The October 15th, 2020 meeting of the DuPage Birding club featured a look into the natural history and population trend monitoring of some of Illinois’ nocturnal birds, owls and nightjars.

Filled with many fun facts and conservation concerns about these birds, Illinois Natural History Survey ornithologist, Tara Beveroth, featured many species: the Common Nighthawk, Chuck-will's-widow, Eastern Whip-poor-will, Eastern Screech-Owl, Great Horned Owl, Barred Owl, Short-eared Owl, and Northern Saw-whet Owl. The MOON monitoring program and its findings were discussed. Learn more: https://www.inhs.illinois.edu/research/moon/.

Tara also share a brief look at some of her other projects, including the Critical Trends Assessment Program (CTAP) and a brand new banding station.
