ОтветитьFar far too much time spent prevaricating!! 3x3 metre net to drop into from an abseiling line. Literally done in 10secs or less. In the comments the pilot would never have fallen 38 feet. Totally prepped from ship to tug at the right time maybe 5secs. What I see is head in the sand TRADITION. I need to add that very recently a 73 year old woman with a nose bleed was against her wishes winched up to a helicopter and human fallibility being what it is could NOT be brought into the chopper because she was spinning at about 80 rpm. That’s more than 1 full turn every second. The story ended there. Of her outcome we know nothing.

ОтветитьYears ago I shot a short documentary with the London Porty Authority. We embarked on shore, but had to disembark at sea. This video is a picture of that day. While everyone is congratulating the pilot, my hats-off goes to the deck hand and coxwain of the Pilot Cutter. It takes crazy amounts of skill to get alongside and stable enough in rolling seas to create enough safely to get aboard.

ОтветитьHer title is "Pilot" NOT "Lady Pilot." She didn't meet the qualifiations for a "Lady Pilot." Nobody on that ship called for a "Lady Pilot." And nobody woul dcall her coworker a "Gentleman Pilot." She's a Pilot.

ОтветитьI used to watch Pilots board the ships on Delaware Bay and the Chesapeake Bay I always thought that would be a cool job except on days like these. I never seen them in weather like this and that was because I would never take my boat out in weather like this and my boat was 40 ft in length

ОтветитьPure ignorance of ships Captain not allowing Vessel a Couple of Degree off the Windward Course to allow a little lea for the Pilot to Disembark is bad seamanship & Vessel handling. Also for the sea state Vessel was travelling far to fast to apply any safety standards here.
