Hi folks! I am overwhelmed by your positive comments. I wish I could keep up on it all!

I might do a "thank you" stream sometime soon. Seriously, you all mean the world to me and I'm so thankful for your support.

The number of times I hear young people say, "I just can't anymore." Good for you for taking the risk and I wish you well.

I loved my C=128. LDA $D018. Made my way through 25 years of programming RPG to Fully Free RPG. VB 3.0 to VB 6 to Visual Studio and all its glory as well. I can only state 1 year of COBOL in class 1989. I'm sure it is nothing like back then as we had to program on paper cards. Lately I've been in cyber security field and what I'm seeing is unbelievable coding bugs even programmers with one year schooling would know better than producing. Fun fun.

I love my job. Why? Because I don't get to talk to clients and people in general. The only people I talk to are also antisocial people that don't give a damn about what they say about you when you give your opinion online.

wow haven't heard the word 'cobol' in so long...I started in IT in '78 in operations hanging tapes, printing reports on impact printers, bursting reports, moved to systems, programming in COBOL on Honeywell Mainframe , moved on to DBA role and then as a consultant in data base conversion and data architect for last 35 years....been a great career..good timing and some luck.

It is a brave thing to "throw it all away" and start a new career direction. I tip my hat to you.

Hi, I was coding in Cobol for 10 years, including Y2K. During pandemia I watched in TV a governor asking Cobol programmers, then I bought 6 books to update my knowledge. Big surprise! Everything is the same. Nothing had changed. Then I prepared a resume and I started to send it. Also, I contacted many HR companies in my state and I left them my resume. In 3 years, I received just 2 calls for an appointment for interview (one by zoom). I was frustrated, failed in my process looking for job. I learned that many portals are looking for fill up their database only and another “spam”, that means, they looking for you in order to you do click to their ads. Now, with your video, it came to my mind how many hours I worked for nothing: the companies never paid us overtime, overnight, weekends, etc. Neither the big stress you suffer in this field. Thank you for your words and let me know your feelings… and of course, remember me that time. I will stop looking for jobs in Cobol. Thank you so much 😊!!!!

Great to know! Please tell us a lot about Linux, and especially whether it's a "rabbit-hole" of trial and errors or not? I'm stuck with Windows and it sucks. Also, I can't upgrade to Win 11, which I dislike.
