Well Chris Gibson, who looks 20 years younger, and is a skincare expert says that you use mineral sunscreen with pea-size amount on face, since it works differently than chemical ones. I see people putting the same amount of mineral sunscreen as chemical ones and it looks abnoxous. Also, 2 fingers measure, just imagine putting that 5-7 times a day if outside would last you how long? Three days lol?

Well well… Was agonizing over a tinted mineral sunscreen search for days because ‘chemical sunscreens don’t protect against blue light and they worsen hyperpigmentation.’ Thanks for the re-grounding. It’s refreshing to hear someone with a science background say it’s OK to not wear sunscreen if your day doesn’t require it (i.e. indoors). I think companies and influencers use skin cancer to guilt people into using (therefore buying) an unnecessary amount of sunscreen. I am not a horrible person if I go bare faced indoors on a rainy day, damn it!

Finding a sunscreen that I like just as much as any other moisturiser has been an absolute game changer. I wear 50+ everyday and apply it like lotion post shower without even thinking. Only wish I started sooner!

I wonder what your thoughts are about apps like the SunSmart app which track the UV levels and show you times of day when the UV is low and you apparently don’t need to wear sunscreen. Do you not reapply when the UV is shown to be low (under 2) on these apps? Thank you for your content and guidance 🙏

This was a great video! I consider myself to be a pretty savvy sunscreen wearer, and I use a lot of protective measures like hats, sunglasses, UPF clothing, but I definitely learned a few things! I was especially surprised by the 2-hour application information. I was one of those people that believed that the two-hour reapplication had to do with 2 hours in the sun. I thought that the sunscreen probably broke down or lost effectiveness after 2 hours and that's why reapplication was necessary. It kind of freaks me out that I've been thinking of this all wrong... I have a question about kids and sunscreen: not realizing that the reapplication was supposed to happen every 2 hours regardless, I've been sending my son to school with sunscreen on and assuming it would protect him hours later at recess. He's not a very sweaty kid and doesn't have oily skin so like you said maybe he's getting a little more than 2 hours out of his sunscreen, but now I'm thinking about how best to protect him this summer. Kids have such delicate skin and I know that sunburns in kids can be more harmful later in life than if you get burned as an adult. At least that's what I've heard. My son has never had a sunburn, thankfully, so maybe I'm doing all right with sunscreen in the summer time but I'd love advice on how best to protect kids. They aren't super good at reapplying sunscreen! 😅 I do put him in a lot of hats and sun shirts so at least that's a start.

Ive never seen or heard anyone yalk about it, but (moreso when i was younger) after a few hours of wearing sunscreen, when id exhale/breathe it would feel all chemical-ie(? Idk how else to explain it),, anyone else experienced this or know why it happens?(i used to think it happened to everyone til i mentioned it to my mom and sister one time and they had no idea what i was talking about)

Lately I’ve been wondering, do my hair needs sun protection as well? I have dark curly Asian hair that gets a bit bleached during summer, and I personally don't like it. I checked some papers, but couldn't find an exact answer. Wearing headwear all the time doesn’t seem as an option for me, so I'm wondering if there are any sprays that could protect my hair without making it greasy and heavy. Any suggestions?

i feel like chemical sunscreen makes my skin more clogged, but i can't stand the white cast of mineral suncreen. at least i can apply mineral around my eyes and on top of my eye lids.

i also forget to apply to my arms when i go out. the only parts of my skin i usually show is my face, neck, chest (a little), and my lower arms. this is where use chemical sunscreeen on mg body 💓

I don't want to give up my chemical sunscreens (Beauty of Joseon Rice Probiotics and Skin1004 Hyalu-Cica Water-fit Sun Serum) once I'm pregnant, but I keep reading that chemical sunscreens are unsafe in pregnancy? I would assume that no sunscreen is worse than wearing a chemical sunscreen?

The downside of higher SPFs is also that many people misunderstand how the SPF should be interpreted and think that they can stay out in the sun for hours at a time, and/or they'll apply multiple products with SPFs mistakenly thinking that the SPFs can be added together, thus giving them a higher SPF.
I was actually told that by someone once, ie, if I applied this item which was SPF 20 over another item which was SPF 20, I'd have SPF 40. I was working as a beauty therapist at the time. This information is wrong, of course, but what annoyed me was the company in question to having someone spreading misinformation - he was a makeup artist promoting a new product, therefore not working on counter where main staff could hear what he was saying.
There's enough confusion surrounding sun blocks as it is- companies should make sure those that work for them actually know the facts, rather than spreading their own theories.
(Sorry, just venting.)
Love your posts 👍

I have a sunscreen question…are tinted chemical sunscreens a thing? I’ve been looking for one for a while without success. Because I would loooove a lightly colored sunscreen for evening out my skin tone but I haaaaate mineral sunscreens! Every time I try a mineral sunscreen, even a Korean mineral sunscreen, they either pill or resist elegant reapplication, or both. I’ve just given up on them completely.

Hi Michelle, I have a question. Can you layer different sunscreens? Once one has dried down, I like to apply a second layour (a tinted sunscreen). Is the overall protection not compromised because I used two different sunscreens? FYI: They're both mainly chemical based sunscreens, but the second one contains Iron and Titatnium oxides.

This is a great video! I have two questions though. I hope you or someone sees them: 1. Say that I like a particular mineral tinted sunscreen I want to keep using because it works as my foundation, but if I put the correct amount is way too cakey. Can I put half of the amount in an chemical sunscreen and then layer the mineral on top? Or do both of them need to be the correct 1tsp?

2. Now say that the tinted sunscreen is not my perfect color match: can I mix two tints (or a tint and a white version) of the same sunscreen? So same ingredients, just different tint. Is that safe?

I have a huge routine of skincare with multiple acne products serums and moisturizers every morning. And I have been using chemical sunscreen last exempt followed by a mineral tinted sunscreen. Now I just read chemical sunscreen should be applied before all other products including moisturizer and La Roche Posay and dermatologists said it. I have never eve done it this way! Also I saw chemical and mineral sunscreens shouldn’t be layered but that is always what I have done and I have never found a matte chemical sunscreen with full coverage for my fair cool skin. I have no clue what I would use for my acne prone and my allergic to fragrance eczema prone skin .. I’ve also been layering copper peptides under tretinoin every night for years. Have I been messing everything up? I don’t know what to do. Advise please??
