How to make Animation Memes FOR FREE! (DaVinci Resolve) Beginner Friendly to Advanced

this is SO helpful, i absolutely cannot thank you enough. 🙏

gonna leave a tip here for anyone struggling who has a layer hierarchy different to their transform hierarchy (ex: transform hierarchy is torso > upper arm > lower arm > hand but layer hierarchy is lower arm > torso > upper arm > hand)
if you copy a transform node but use ctrl+shift+v to paste, it creates an instance of the transform node which means it is a separate node you can place elsewhere but it inherits all of the changes made to the original node. there’s also a green line that connects the original and the instanced node
in the example situation which is actually the issue I had, you can merge the torso on top of the upper arm, merge hand on top of lower arm, then take those two merge nodes and merge them accordingly. after the upper arm node, put a transform node. make an instance of that transform and put it after the lower arm + hand merge. now when you use the original transform node it correctly affects the lower arm and hand, and the lower arm and hand can stay above the torso
this is also helpful if you want to have shadows that are their own image that are controlled by one part but affect another. example, i wanted a shadow being casted by my head to be cast on the torso using multiply. so when the head moves the shadow would too. to do this i merged the head shadow on top of the torso, change “apply mode” on the merge node to multiply. i also plugged the output of the torso node into the blue part of the merge node to function like a clipping mask. then i made an instance of the transform node that was affecting only the head and placed it after the head shadow.
