If soyuz had landed in the U.S. the crew would have been interned in prison as spies , the soyuz would have been seized for inspection

I think both nations really realized how pointless the space race was at that time and figured out that neither nation could effectively utilize space as a way to deploy weapons and use it as an advantage over the other and holding astronauts doing tests with ant colonies and plants wasn’t worth the international drama of holding them as prisoners which they shouldn’t have to begin with, and figured instead of causing injury and hassle might as well just show the other the basics of the space craft so we can recover our people and property as fast as possible.

Does anyone know the source of the audio in the opening? I’ve been trying to find it for years with no luck.

If a Soyuz spacecraft landed in the US they would have been treated like celebrities. I'm sure they'd be invited for supper. But... I'm sure the Soviets knew that would be the case.

I assume if they landed in another country the spacecraft would be heavily graffitied and the cosmonaut would taken to a embassy.

Nice going ussr and now russia
I get why you left the iss
Because its getting unsafe and besides the usa is already having issues so choosing china is good
Just remind them to be careful with Large Uncontrolled orbits

Do astronauts carry their passports with them in case they land in another country? Are they diplomatic passports?

This never happened - Soviets feared their cosmonauts would want to stay in USA instead of going back to happiest country in the world.

Why not? Enough open space to not do too much damage and technologically advanced enough for a quick rescue and medical assistance.

What an extraordinary story! There's a movie script in there somewhere. Also here in Australia, a capsule could come down in the middle of nowhere and not be found for weeks. If at all!

What I like about this is that two of the spots were in Saskatchewan. It makes sense as we have some of the friendliest people around and fairly high chances of getting advanced medical care quickly. While having a near-zero chance of hitting anything but a cow. If it ever happened I'm fairly certain that this would be the talk of the town for 30 years, a monument and a town or two renamed.

USSR: comrades you will have to land in Brazil near Rio de Janeiro and it´s Carnival there but we might be able to bring you home safly

Cosmonauts: no no no no! safety 1st! we land in Rio then after 2 weeks we return home!

USSR: why 2 weeks?

Cosmonauts: because we will be too drunk to be found

We in Sweden don’t have a crewed space flight program but a cool domestic spaceport for large sounding rockets.
