The original home's concrete block construction had no insulation. The 1957 addition to the home filled the cavities with small insulation pellets. Comparisons of the before and after energy use per heating degree days indicated a 17% savings in gas and electric over the previous year. The study was averaged over two months. A major benefit of the insulation injection was the vapor barrier it creates after 2 inches. The cavity in the block is approximately 7 inches horizontally.
