Can you GAME on a PCIE 1x to 16x RISER? - Kinda

The guy I bought my rx580 from said it wasn't used for mining, but included one of these. Should I be worried?

Ive played elden ring on a 2070 super with a riser for about an hour with good performance about 50 fps on 4k then the gpu went berserk fans spun up to a 100 controller was vibrating like crazy and the rig turned off but fortunately booted right back again nevertheless ill go play on my proper gaming pc not on the rig

I've used those mining risers for moving non critical pcie devices (low end gpu, wifi card, ethernet passthrough card and backup pcie ssd), in horizontal mount rack chassis (I enjoy rack mount chassis, they are efficientuse of space.)

I mean if the pci slot is damaged this could be a cheap alternative
