Imo the number of trees does not exist independent of perspective, because to count a set of things, somebody needs to define the set by deciding what is in the set and what isn't. Natural numbers are not natural in the sense that no two distinct things are naturally equal, else they wouldn't be distinct. We define them as equal by deciding that details like their position in space and time or individual properties don't "count". Countable categories are a result of a subject setting a purpose.

The notion existe, the description (numbers, equations...) is invented.

It's sad that you didn't take a look at what Muslim mathematicians wrote / said about it, even when they contributed the most in facilitating the use of numbers with the introduction of "0" by Al-khawarismi, and the designing of numbers (1,2,3,4...) how we write them now.

I think this question bares on a particular problem with hard materialism, (only material things enjoy full ontological status). Mathmatics, being non material but also indispensable in describing and predicticting the behavior of material things, AND doing an amazing job doing so, seems to suggest that numbers, as well as mathmatical functions, MUST be real. It spooks out the materialists I think.😊

In my opinion math is a language invented used to describe and explain the shape of the universe, we invented math and by some mysterious luck it turned out to lead us to discover how our world works

Look at the number of protons, atoms in a molecule, chromosomes in DNA, formation of stars etc.... it was there with reasons and patterons. You just came and started to see it. Doesn't it make sense that its just discovered? You are give two eyes, two legs, two hands and one head and its so easy to realize for species with such a big brain.

Math is a Human perception that uses symbols to describe patterns. Math does not exist outside mankind's mind.

Math concepts, like numbers, are abstract objects that we discovered, but the symbols and names we give to them are invented. The “language” of math is invented, but not the concepts. That’s how I see it.

The human mind needs to take reference for understanding things. Like alphabets and words to describe everything. Similarly, the numbers and math operations help humans to quantify everything...🤔🤔🤔

Numbers and mathematical relations are aspects of nature, but do not exist independent ftom nature. In its elementary forms they were discovered. But derivations thereoff are invented in the first place, and some of these get discovered in the nature later on, which makes these useful to describe nature. But numbers and equations as we write them is a language used to describe mathematics.

The way i see it is: Concept of maths was discovered but maths as we know it was invented.

Math and it’s integration into the universe is so strange

What if all mathematical truths, whether we know or don't know them, have a physical phenomenon that they explain, and any which may appear otherwise, is simply because we do not know the physical phenomenon which it explains, or we do not know that we do not know it. For example the greeks "invented" conic sections, not expecting there to be any physical phenomenon which they explain, only for Newton 2000 years later to discover that the motions of planets around the sun actually obey conic sections to a very high degree of accuracy. This behaviour was true even when the greeks did not know it to be true.

The fact, that everything we now know to be part of mathematics can be defined, is discovered, while the very definitions in it are invented.

Math is a playground of logic. And logic is created by humans . So math is invented
And the logic started from the numbers we count , so it all started when counting was invented. The universe is just like biology and biological events. So we can say universe is random. And math is to understand that random thing , but we think we are understanding in order but that's not it . Math is a language or a machine or a weapon to understand universe easily only for humans . Math is discovered, but symbols to represent them are invented. Math is ultimately invisible they are abstract entities not bound by matter alone. But are expressed materially and we can infer math even without mathematical symbols as well.

Math is invented to describe the way we observe things to behave in the Universe. It's defined that way. As for why things behave the way they do, that's just the most natural way they can be. Here's an example: say we question why 2 + 2 = 4 and not 5. And by that we don't ask why we call the result of 2 + 2 4 and not 5, obviously, we ask why by adding 2 real world objects to 2 other real world objects we get 4 and not, say, 5 objects. The reason is, that there've always been these 4 objects, that we've explored. They've simply been separated into 2 sets each with 2 objects. Via math, we simply represent the total number of objects as 4 and the number in each set of objects as 2 and the process of adding 2 objects to 2 OTHER objects as addition of natural numbers. It's based on reality and so far (at least) reality is consistent.

Math didn't exist before Africans INVENTED it and that the problem.
This video started talking about Greeks who didn't invent anything mathematical.

Even animals and plant understand numbers.... so numbers aren't constructs. Everbody can observe this.

I feel ashamed that such an educative channel will be biased and not include any Muslims mathematician. A lot of math concepts were developed during the Islamic golden age, Einstein, Newton and many scientists'works wouldn't exist if it weren't for those Muslim scientists.

My opinion is that math was invented. Number systems were invented and equations were then discovered based in the invention.

Having doubts about the answer is ironic. It's like NPCs discovering how a line of code works in a massive game then questioning if they invented programming 😂

Our brain works mathematically. Hence, the universe we can understand can be described mathematically.
