Thank you great tutorial. Is there a way to blur in the parameters a bit the hdri image so the reflection is less sharp?

So you change a shading propery (diffuse, specularity) on a hdri dome attribute. And this is good .. Logical right? and not changing at the shading property of the object....

As someone who is trying to reteach himself everything from scratch and push into the games industry, this tutorial is stupidly handy, you've explained how to use HDR effectively and quickly, thank you so much for making this!!!

Hi Monica, I'm trying to use a shadow matt instead of a regular plane for compositing but when I turn the visibility of the skydome off, specular reflections in chrome sphere turn black, taking only shadows from the plane(shadow matt). Would you happen to know a solution that will let me turn the visibility of the skydome light off and have the reflections in the sphere at the same time?

The Shanghai Bund is a historic, 1500 meter long waterside promenade showcasing distinctive modern & colonial buildings. That's where that HDRI map is made.

I have some tips to share. Firstly to remove reflections, or anything else (question below) you can use the render setup window, create a collection, and then a AOV. You can then exclude anything you want. Second, you can shift the horizon vertically (in maya you can only rotate the HDRI) by opening the HDRI in photoshop, moving the image down (or up, you only need to move it a tiny amount to get a noticable shift) then box select a portion of the top (or bottom, wherever you have made a gap) free transform and stretch to fill. Save it out as a new HDRI and voilla. Now your horizon line is where you want it. Very useful if you are looking out the window of a 2nd storey building, or something. x
