I see a lot of year ago fights about how this fight was supposed to show much takumi has grown since the first stage and stuff, and truth be told? this wasn't really one in which it was obviously shown, the author had no need for that so at most this fight was about two different takes on how to drive the AE86 efficently, which in the end was down to how much more drive one had than the other, aka showing that ultimately the experience takumi had as a challanger allowed him to be more reckless for what he wanted to achieve, it was a battle of two losers and there was a bigger one, that's all there is to it, so people need to stop giving all that crap to how this fight was supposed to show that or this, truth be told the whole show was supposed to show the growth of takumi and others in a journey, and they did it most of the time.
And to the guy that's so obviously tilted in the wrong way about takumi having a high reving engine and still managing to blow it off, the fuck did you want to happen? shinji is literally takumi from akina, he had the terrain advantage while takumi went on it for basically a few weeks at most, if anyone's the better driver it's still takumi, especially since he WON on shinji's turf, which he was driving for roughly the same amount of time takumi was driving on akina, AND TAKUMI, didn't lose on akina in the first stage, so go figure, who's the better one?

The part that made cringe like a motherfucker was about "You're fast, but you have the same Eight Six as I do"
Yeah, fucking right, Shinji also ihad a spare copy of the same custom made high-rev racing engine fine-tuned both by Bunta, the fastest racer in Gunma, and team of highly skilled Project D mechanics, he also had his car tuned to the brim like it was with Fujiwara's one, it totally wasn't a stock junker that was steered by a way better driver.
And he also made tofu boy fuck up racing engine that was supposed to last way longer compared to original 4-AGE. A perfect win for Project Duh.

Plot armor in Final stage is easily beating Rei's Mary Sue powers from last Star Wars episodes.
