There is a mod that turns you into a synth you make your character in the institute and spawn in the vault there are different story voice lines and your goal is to gain the trust of all factions

It's really cool

I have a point that proves the sole survivor is a synth. In Vault 111 there is a terminal that describes gen 3 having augmented combat vision (Vats) Wich we are capable of doing BEFORE obtaining the pipboy. That alone, is hard truth we are a synth. Also right outside the vault there is a small railroad shack. Meaning they were monitoring something..... or someone.

Almost explains the lack of traits, like ‘Small Frame’ giving weaker limbs for agility; we don’t get to decide if SS has weaker limbs or other debuffs not related to surviving or damage (I know survival was mentioned, I feel like this sort of branches off of that). Our flesh can technically be exceptional if you want to consider the ghoulish perk, and even these features can be explained by being part synth since we were supposed to be being sought by the institute for having clean, pre-war DNA. A few of the perks that I remember relate to the pip-boy being the source of the perk improvement, so who really knows. Could have recognized our body as exceptional and offered flesh enhancements.

People keep mentioning other synths saying we’re human, but how could they recognize a new-gen synth that was made to be more human-like?

What if father wasn't actually Shaun and the real Shaun died after Kellogg showed him the real world in diamond city and father thought (crap there goes my plans for a successor) so father decided to release us because technically we are the last pure human left. So to get us on bored and run the institute he decided to pretend to be Shaun is entire time 🤔🤯

No if you were a synth you would have a synth component in your inventory like all the others and since you do not you're not a synth case closed

The reason this couldn't be possible is why would shaun assign Nate as the successor of the institute knowing very well you were a synth yourself or even less call you his own father also somebody else would know if the sole survivor was a synth Im very sure father cant do it alone

This is my headcanon. It explains too much to be ignored. Two things always bothered me: the duality of Nick Valentine and the Institute's motto "Humanity: Redefined". If the SS is a synth, Nick Valentine's struggle indicates that the Institute was having a hard time separating out baseline human function and common skillset while not creating a custom, albeit blank, personality that will exist alongside the memories of the implanted donor. Clearly the RR figured this out, but they would not be on terms good enough to share knowledge. As for "Humanity: Redefined", the first thought might be that the Institute view synths as the inheritors of the future. But their disdain for the synth's apparent sentience shows that's not quite right. What might make sense is the FEV research, the cybernetic research (culminating in Kellogg's setup; and the jealousy it engendered) and the synth research were all ways to extend the "life" (as the Institute cares to define it) of Institute scientists and people of note. When a scientist gets old, they can have an engram made of their memories and then those can be implanted on a synth body. The process has been so streamlined, that the synth is not aware they are not the original human. Synth Sean is implanted with Sean's memories, backdated to a particular point in time. This may explain his peace with the whole matter, and his apparent change of tack in regards to the humanity of synth Sean.

I don't know if you need far harbor DLC to activate but we can find a sole survivor's body (a copy of your current character with the vault suit) on a pharmacy in Lexington, but the body has no " synth component ". But, if your character were the actualy a synth copy, wouldn't the institute have records of that? they have Danse's, so I think is just Bethesda's lazy work on " I'm gonna blow your mind " kinda plot to give your on choice of character's background.

I don’t think so cuz you can explain tell the baseball guy the rules of baseball in arc jet they say hostile synth and human detected referring to Danse I feel coursiers would give you your code if it was obvious if you weren’t joining the institute why would they let you also how would they know about your past vault Tec rep coming that day you can see those neighbors outside as ghouls how would they know they were there I don’t think I don’t know why they would have a synth take over? Either

Nope......not a synth.

3 big clues

1. Most important, Gen 3 synths weren't created until Shaun was stolen by Kellogg.

2. The Vault Tec Rep recognizes you in Goodneighbor, there's no way the Institute would have known you met him just before the bombs dropped.

3. If you become enemies with the Institute, the smart thing to do would be for someone to say your recall code. Shaun on his deathbed would have still been able to shut you down.

I think it's very unlikely that the sole surviver is a synth. There's holotapes and terminal logs of people thinking Shawn is weird for creating a child synth of himself. There would be similar evidence if Shawn wanted a synth copy of his dead parent. And, why not copy both? When it comes to Deena, he's just a manipulative bastard. I let the Far Harbor people execute him. He had poor what's her name thinking she might be a synth when she's not.

According to my theory, the protagonist of Fallout 4 could be a synth, based on the fact that a terminal in the Institute describes a synthetic "prototype" with enhanced perception and the ability to slow down time. This could explain the protagonist's ability to use VATS to slow down time and target specific parts of enemies.

I have no doubts about nate/Nora being human.

I'm surprised he never mentioned how in one of the terminals at the Institute it states how the synths have the capability to change their perception of time allowing them to better target specific areas or limbs of hostiles which is obviously what VATS does and the Sole Survivor is equipped with.

Of course you can argue this is more because of the Pipboy but it is worth mentioning since the game has it in there in the first place. Also the Pipboy previously stopped time whereas synths slow time and in Fallout 4 using VATS does not stop time it slows it down.

It is also possible that they got pre war DNA and killed Shaun after all from piper the institute takes children parents and kill them after and in Kellogg's memory's the last time we see Shaun is the last time Kellogg had a fresh memory so that's my conspiracy theory so it makes sense to replace the backup/The Sole Survivor I had suspicions that the sole survivor was a synth from the far harbor DLC.

Father didn't release the Sole Survivor as an experiment. That's just how he rationalized an irrational decision. He did it out of Hope. He did it for the little boy he used to be, who laid up many nights wondering who his mom and dad were. A thought he pushed to the back of his head. To the depths of his subconscious. But he never shook 100% free of it. And then one day it spurred him to an action that he...as a man of science...could only rationalize to himself as an "experiment". Rather than accept the truth: It was his inability to continue ignoring that sad, lonely boy he tried to bury inside himself.

It's actually what made it harder for me to destroy the Institute when the time came.

Yes Now I beleive he is a synth , and it was probably a private experiments , the lone wanderer was a unique synth , he didnt have a Reset Code , and other synths could not detect he is a synth , because Shawn hismelf game this features to his father's synth . it is basically a more advanced synth . or just a synth without an identification chip .

I lean towards the Sole Survivor is not a synth as do you @Oxhorn. However I did come across an interesting quote from the Sandy Coves Convalescent Home after the scripted synths arrive at the entrance. It's hard to catch with all the fighting but they do say, and I quote "fellow synth verified." I just thought you would find that interesting as it's the first time I have ever heard that (and I've done a lot of play through). There's a lot of the evidence points to the SS being human but I thought I'd add that little bit of evidence gong the other way.

Father: Creates Synth of parent and waits for them to arrive.

SS: Shows up at Institute. And blows Father's brains out the moment they see him.

Father: (Shocked Pikachu face.)

I hate that dialogue with Dima. Because the answers we can give are answers WE THE PLAYER would give. Because that’s the farthest WE know about. But not the character.. the character had mentioned remembering watching the silver shroud, remembers who bradberton is, etc. why would we be allowed to say those things, but not when dima asks. It’s stupid.

Yeah 100% my SS is a synth. She's not telling DiMA that. Why TF Shaun decided to have his mom pork with everyone that's a romancable campanion, no idea maybe he's just into that category.

But DiMA? That mofo is getting strung up, Avery is getting strung up too, the nucleus is getting blown, and finally the Institute is being informed of the synth refuge.

I always have to think it's good that synths exist in this post apocalyptic world, cause there are plenty of decimal test we can do that would detect a synth, maybe an MRI, which would give 3d scans of people's brains, that the synth components would show up in, if the component doesn't have any magnetic metals in them, which would cause the MRI machine to just rip the component out pretty violently with magnets. It's really funny hearing the people of the Commonwealth talk about having advanced tech, when they got nuked back to the 1700s with some relics they say are theirs, cause the laser weapons are all prewar, the power armor is all prewar, the buildings and medicine is all prewar, the institute are the only one to have been able to continue scientific progress, and they don't have that much trouble identifying synths, so the SAFE test lady is always hilarious to me cause she has little to no grounding for her research, she's basically pulling at straws when the tech to detect synths is in every hospital in Boston, she just needs to get one working

Ok 6 year old, but i can say now that Bethesda had no idea of what to do with the main story or probably considered multiple possibilities until finally picking one, Kellogg for example definately reffers to Father as the "old man", and it was the "old man" idea to kidnap Shaun and it also was "the old man" idea to wait with "Synth Shaun" in Diamond City, it is clear those two are the same "old man", besides think about Kellogg age. I think the original idea was that the Institute are all Synths, they lied to you making you to belive that Father is Shaun but the real Shaun may be (if hes is not dead) the one that they told you is a Synth recreation. They are trying to create better synths to slowy infiltrate the humans and etc, thats why the kidnappings and replacing, thats why they create synths whiout any apparent reason...
They probably realised that was Battlestar Galactica Cylons with extra steps and changed it to what we have now to make more open to interpretation and some stuff were left behind.

in order to create a synth, with his parents memories, they would have had to interrogate the original parent. meaning take him or her out of the cryo chamber. torture them and then dispose of them. same as countless of other people of the common wealth. That makes it even more diabolical. The only thing odd is that there is no record at all of any of this.
