Are those 12s on the Bird? Just got one, came with 12s. Usually use 13s. It (that one, too) sounds good

I'm cursing in the church now, but concerning that pickguard: the Gibson designer didn't care much for the old expression 'less-is-better'. Include to that the cracking propensity of the soundboard up towards the fingerboard - now from both neck and plastic; besides, who flatpicks there?

So many blind sound samples. So many other guitars. But I keep coming back to the bird.

I paid the equivalent of five thousand dollars for a Gibson Hummingbird a few months ago, and it is tonally superb. Warm sustain, mellow bass, the works. My enjoyment has been ruined by a cheap paint job on the pick guard. The head of the hummingbird and flower have already disappeared, where I rest my pinkie when I am finger-picking. The response from Gibson? We know about it, but it is not a defect. One of the main reasons for buying a Hummingbird, is that it is a thing of beauty, for which owners pay handsomely. What is the point of paying for beauty, if the manufacturer leaves you stranded when the beauty fades after a few months and five thousand dollars? Will be doing my best to get this message across to anyone thinking about buying this expensive guitar, with the cheapskate Gibson attitude.

Gotta hear something other than the first position to buy a guitar at this price point.

Man I've been so into the Martin sound for so long, completely ignoring for the most part the Gibson.. possibly because my 64' C&W model (Cheryl Crow n Jeff Lynne) wouldn't stay in tune even after I changed from the original button tuners to keystone's n traded for a d41 that I had to have in 07' n just sold it.. The C&W sound was woody n amazing, and if you guys know what a vintage Gibson smells like, then I don't have to explain. One thing I can say is this guitar has a wonderful tight n balanced sound.. dang, I feel GAS coming on.. 😳

Why do people always have to play a guitar so hard and loud? Drives me crazy. You can't really get the feeling of a guitar when someone is banging on it like that.

I had one of those Sheryl Crow Country & Western which in a way is the plain one. Loved it, played it almost to the bone. What always first came to my mind playing was Angie.
This hummingbird is a piece of beauty!

this is a great guitar and I really love the studio variety because of the walnut it has a different sound but you can "Belt Out" some volume on this baby, and it is a blast to play. If you want a strummer that can kick some butt this was the guitar I had to go to even though I resisted for years. you will not be sorry. It capo's well to if you ant to write or lend your voice to the mix.

I was in the Nashville Gibson store many years ago and there was a Epiphone version of the Hummingbird there that I played for a few minutes and it was the best sounding acoustic I had heard for awhile. i don't know if all the Epiphone versions sounded that good but it was impressive. Never ran into the Gibson version but this one represented here sounds great to me.

What are the stock strings on this guitar, and what are the strings on the one played here? I ask because of the different response obtainable using phosphor bronze to straight 80/20 bronze on mahogany back&sides. Thanks.

I understand you guys play together in a band? As a musician, what would Quinton's choice of guitar if there were drums and bass live? Mahogany or Rosewood? Myself as an recording engineer, I would roll off a lot of low end to get it to sit in the mix.

A convincing example of the differences between a Gibson and a Martin, both outstanding in their own way. As far as the Hummingbird is concerned, you will not find a warmer sustain from any other guitar. Find a good one and you'll never want to let it go.
