Good Show old chap. Short and informative
ОтветитьHoly moly I guess that's it for this channel. So many corrections in the comments! Blind leading the blind!
ОтветитьPOV: You've been thinking about the bloody freehub for a week
Ответитьthank you bro
ОтветитьNo shimano? No campagnolo?
ОтветитьFWIW, freehubs and freewheels are not the same thing. Freewheels are not common anymore, certainly on road bikes. Freewheel systems place the ratchet in the cassette assembly, which then threads onto the hub. Freehub systems separate the cassette and ratchet, so the cassette can be replaced more easily and the freehub serviced more easily.
ОтветитьNever once had any joy following GCN tutorials. Done alot better chatting with my local mechanic. Never trust these people
ОтветитьHmm isn't spraying degreaser into the free hub a bad idea unless you plan to take out the bearings and regrease these afterwards?
ОтветитьWatching this from the side of the road
ОтветитьI wouldn't use degreaser as it could affect the main bearings. Just clean using a light oil and brush. Thin layer of grease for reassembly. A great video that explains a lot. Thanks
ОтветитьCan anyone help me taking out the end caps of the Vision SC40TLR with Thru axles? They don't seem to come out by just pulling them out
ОтветитьThank you so much.
ОтветитьYou rock Si
ОтветитьHow easy is it to clean?
ОтветитьGreat, thank you! This really helped me out.
ОтветитьBrilliant
ОтветитьI have timeless freehub with cartridge bearings. I removed the lock nuts but the freehub body wont come off no matter what. It moves ok and locks on too when pedaling but it wont come off. Can it be that there is yet another atttaching mechanism...forth? Maybe some hex screw holds it on other side? But how can i get it open?
ОтветитьPaws or poles? My Hummer bicycle (gic-bike) has only 2 of those, yesterday one finally gave in and ceased my hub :(
Ответитьgood vid, I have play with the 2nd freehub version, will a simple tighten with cone wrench resolve that?
also, can i use naptha as a solvent should that be needed?
thank you so much you helping me
ОтветитьI finally know how those thing work.
ОтветитьMine are none of those. I have the stock Giant PR2 disc wheels at the min. No idea on how to get the freehub off.
ОтветитьI made the mistake of buying great carbon rims with shit Novatec hubs. They like to crunch and knock under hard pedaling :/ I'll see what they look like inside.
Ответитьthanks a LOT!!! while detaching my freehub body, i realised, that the securing screw was loose, detaching the freehub slightly and causing klicking noises while pedaling...
ОтветитьDon’t use the muc off dry lube on the pawls it will rust
ОтветитьMy bike turned into a fixie and I took it to the shop and they said I had to buy a new wheel. I was thinking WTF?
ОтветитьThanks
ОтветитьI bought a new wheelset and thr freehub is plastic. Is that normal?
ОтветитьYou don't want to use a dry lube in a freehub. Different Hub manufacturers require particular lubricant/grease for it to work efficiently. Most pawl systems freehubs use very thin grease such a Dumonde tech Pro-X. This will prevent the pawls from sticking and skipping. It also lubricates the ratchet, so that the sound of the freehub is consistent.
ОтветитьYes years ago bikes were made bomb-proof and lasted years without the need for all of this serviceing. My Boardman hybrid is 6 years old and no problems with the free hub yet Fulcrum road wheels bearings fail every year.
ОтветитьWhy is my hub is now has a quiet free weele in Friday after is quiet before was loud
ОтветитьWho gives a monkeys where the splines are. Love how half the video is about where they are. Bikeradar are way better at simple maintenance videos.
ОтветитьThanks for the very helpfull video to remove my freehub from a Vision wheel 👍
Ответитьnice info...
ОтветитьDoes the bearing that’s not in the free hub need to be replaced over time too ?
Ответитьthat animation isn't actually correct...
ОтветитьLmao I just got turned away from a bike shop because they said it was too time consuming to strip and clean a freewheel cassette and rebuild it. Managed to sort most of the issues with mine using wd40 but am stripping it later on when my tools arrive
ОтветитьHow do I know what type of hub my bike has?
ОтветитьTop tip for lubricating free hub mechanism. Use a good gun & rifle oil. I use Brun Ox turbo spray myself; use it on my mechs too. About €10 for 300ml can. Keep that sweet high pitch clicking from your perfectly clean and lubricated free hub.👍
ОтветитьHad to visit this video as i broke my freewheel hub during my 600km ride....and was stuck at half way route..🥵
Ответитьdoes anyone knows who to remove freehub on a reynold strike slg disc?
ОтветитьRode through the recent snowstorm. Freehub stopped freely spinning and turned into a fixie at this point. The chain slap it caused damaged the paint pretty bad..
Glad I saw this video. Gonna tackle this project soon.
