The SMG4 Redesigns Have Changed...

I feel like the real reason Luke wanted these design changes is less because of the ominous threat of Nintendo DMCA takedowns, and more because he wanted to give a more unique look to his characters. I get the feeling be never intends to change Mario's look, but rather he wants to increase the creative flair of his surrounding characters that are based on existing IPs, particularly SMG4 and SMG3, who are simply reskins of Mario. They're still clearly based on their old design, but now they have a more unique look that sets them apart even further.

Bob and Boopkins' situation is similar, but a little different. While they definitely have a more unique and outstanding design now, Boopkins is still obviously a Spike and Bob is still obviously a Garo. Even if someone had never even seen them with their original designs, they would still easily be able to tell that Boopkins is meant to be a Spike and Bob is meant to be a Garo.

This is exactly why I think the redesigns had little or nothing to do with dodging DMCA takedowns, and I feel like Luke wasn't being as honest as he should have been when he gave his explanation. I think the Lawsuit Arc was simply a fun idea they conceived based on a real fear they had, and the redesigns were probably something the Lerd brothers had been wanting to do for a long time, just for creative purposes rather than simply as a legal precaution.

I should note, I'm saying this after finishing the Perfection Arc. I've been sleeping on the series a bit and I have some catching up to do.

The question y'all talk about is a good one but here the thing: i feel like there IS a reason why Mario is still mario here is because of... Brand recognition, because i will say it right here right now: i don't want the actual Nintendo characters to be redesign i repeat I. DON'T. WANT. THE STUPID PLUMMER. TO. BE. CHANGE. I think the brothers will not feel the same because getting does change will ruined the interior point of smg4 universe as a whole and even if the same theme of Nintendoness is kept... I don't think it would be same. So if redesigning the original characters based on stablish franchises minimize the chances of a DMCA, so be it. At least that my opinion it really does feel like luke feel the same but i could be completely wrong here.

Listen man, I get everyone wants the “old SMG4 back” but people change and so does their identity and brand. There is millions of videos of the old stuff if the new stuff isn’t your vibe. People can’t be forced to stay the same forever, and personally I like the changes, it shows his growth as a creator.

I think the reason is cause SMG4 might not be able to actually get any money from making merch, and that’s not a bad thing. I’d probably want a Boopkins plush too. So it kinda makes sense, he’s able to use Nintendo IP in videos and in the thumbnails but he can’t use it for merch so he can get more money to keep making videos.

As an OC creator and owner myself, I wasn't against these redesigns, but's good to see these improvements to them, especially Meggy and Boopkins

they wont return too the nintendo models most likely because they wanna sell merch of the characters its probably not a problem in the vids since that isn't illigal selling merch of a mario redisign is since it basically becomes a bootleg

I’m less concerned about the redesign and more concerned about just how bad the channel became, it used to be simple stuff but now it’s even more outrageous to the point where it’s getting old, and the worst part is that the videos aren’t funny anymore, the best way to describe it is when family guy was cancelled temporarily and then the show returned and became awful, that’s how I feel about this channel now. Smg4 back then felt like it was more targeted towards teenagers and adults, nowadays it feels like it’s targeted an even younger demographic so there’s obviously more corny unfunny jokes

for me smg4 should stop with all that lore stuff because, his stories well...

they don't really match with the universe of meme that he has already establish, he created his chanel for showing mario and others Nintendo carachters doing shit And make us laugh, for me now its just looks like a bad movie where you put some jokes in hope that it will make itbetter . And for the redesigns they are better indeed but they are still ugly

I honestly like Meggy's first redesign better because it looks more realistic cuz the new one looks like an anime character.

From what I remember, in a video He made about 2019, Luke stated that He expressed interest in re-designing SMG4. So I don't think fear for a DMCA from Nintendo was the exact reason, Especially since Australia has fair use laws.

Simple. They want to keep the redesigns for fucking merch. I don't fall for any of that Nintendo IP bullshit, since the copyright laws are fair in Australia, even from Nintendo. Because everytime the characters get a redesign, they turn into merch, sponsored for a new movie or show, or even both.

The it's gotta be perfect movie made me lost hope to a channel that I already unsubscribed to a couple years ago. Y'know what, if they redesign Mario and Luigi, I wouldn't be surprised but that would prove my point if the next video we see is using redesign Mario and Luigi as merch.

I think its half the reason, he did state on twitter he was thinking about changing SMG3 and 4's models aside from a DMCA and more of wanting to just build a new model to work on source more/to make SMG4 and 3 be different than just being mario clones, it's not perfect but it does show they want to take the series in a different direction

My guess of why they made the redesigns and decided to stick with it was mainly because of how much more they use high quality animation now. The new models in opinion have always been SO much more expressive then the old Mario ones but the new designs push that to a much higher degree with how they react and especially facial animations. After all there's only so much you can do that looks good with distorting a Mario recolors face.

Yes some people would agree with you, but the old SMG4 and SMG3 designs look like mario only blue with different pants. Which would lead to a cease and desist, and SMG4 fans would be in an outrage would protest and boycott Nintendo.

The other character's to redisgen are X Fm and Starman 3 since smg4 and 3 got new models and wotfi is free to be normal since 2019, and then is Tari cause besides X Fm And StarMan 3 she's the only character to redisgen besides her there's Chris And Swag

I think the idea is that in a worse case scenario they can hold onto to some of the best characters, and hope to patch together the channel, though unlikely because it would be weird to redesign characters like Mario just look at SML

The main reason I think the old designs arent coming back is for marketing and merchandise. The only characters that gotten redesigns are OCs (yes even Bob and Boopkins). With the new designs, its easier to make merch without getting into legal trouble.

I feel like the thing most SMG4 fans don't recognize is how much SMG4 wants to make a bigger identity for himself and honestly I think the redesigns are great. Before, the redesigns (except for Bob) weren't amazing but it was clear SMG4 wanted to make his character designs more unique to his own channel. I honestly love the new designs way more than just the old models. We went from recolored Mario's to original designs for SMG4 and 3 and people are mad about that.

how is making the designs reflect on their irl counterparts a bad thing? it makes a lot of sense for it to be that way (and I just like the designs)
