personally i think the show started sucking when it stopped being a post apocalypse/ww1/scifi anime. which was pretty much at the start of the final season.

Very well explained.
I appreciate the ending a bit more now.
I still don't get the point of it all.
Was it just to reset humanity so that the world could get a break from human wars for some time?

Honestly the way the anime did this makes me think they contacted the manga writer and personally asked him if he’d like to help them write the final episode! Which would be really cool to think about especially since he’d be able to do it a bit more clearly and makes it interesting to me because this anime has bred quite faithful to the manga!

i feel like the Armin in the Manga already knows he can't change anything and just wants to understand they why and get explanations from Eren

the thank you for becoming a mass murderer line is just a clusterfuck of poor wording and i'm not sure how much of that was Iseyama vs the actual translator's fault but i understand it as Armin being grateful is friend cared so much he was willing to sacrifice everything and become the ultimate evil for them

the anime version is still 100% better though i'm not even gonna fuck around there lmao

Eren didn't want to do genocide but he did it anyway, same as reiner, he was also a half-assed piece of shit. He was the "slave to freedom", since childhood he wanted to see the outside free world which he saw in the book. After knowing that the outside world hates them and does atrocious crimes against their kind, he believed, he had no other choice than rumbling, as foreshadowed in ocean scene. His personal desire of freedom was the main driving force but he also planned to save his friends and island (during timeskip) and achieved all his goals to a perfect end.
His goals-
1. Witnessing outside free world.
2. Lifting off ymir's curse
3. Saving his friends giving them the real freedom and long live
4. Crushing the people who hated them
5. Wiping out every titan
6. Living remaining life with mikasa(atleast in paths).

"bcuz I'm an idiot" -- Eren is taking a punch on himself. As his plan was to save his friends but sasha and hange died bcuz of him and he pushed his friends into a leathal confrontation against flock, risking their lives, not knowing they will suvive or not.

He doesn't say that he did the Rumbling because he was an idiot. He says the Rumbling was the only possible outcome because he's an idiot. Meaning he couldn't figure out or even think of a better solution because of his subconscious obsession with Freedom.

Why are so many upset about "Only Ymir knows" and "I don't know why I did it, I just wanted to"
It's ambiguous and up to interpretation, we all saw the same story so figure out based on what happened what you think the reasons were!

"God, I can't believe they don't show you if the top falls down or not, this movie SUCKS!"

ew no your interpretation is horrific
Ymir's power is born from the creature feeding off her emotional fixation, though a parasitic psionic link, it manifested itself bringing about a force that would impress king fritz
Eren achieved the very one thing he promised: to destroyed all the titans, the only way he knew how, & he's probably the only one mad enough to do it
he did so by breaking the foundation of titan power, by severing Ymir's link with the creature, triggering the events which led to Ymir finally letting go of her fixation

AOT is a story about love, friendship, and freedom, as well as war, discrimination, and unreasonableness that are spreading in reality, and is very easy to understand for people overseas, as well as the advice given by Professor Isayama, who suffered from being misunderstood due to translation.

Oh, and the shell that Armin gave to Eren in the bloodbath is a dream of both of them.

Attack on Titan, thank you♪

To me Ymir was waiting for Eren because through him Mikasa will show her that she can let go and be free. Mikasa show her not to be a slave of love but she still need it Eren to achieve this goal. Thats how I see it.

I thought Mikasa's choice that convinced Ymir was kissing Eren's dead head. Considering that titan's see both past and future at same time, it probably works somehow. I guess my base for this is that both Mikasa's kiss to Eren, and Ymir's devotion to King Fritz are both examples of love. To be honest though I could be completely wrong.

One thing I like in the anime better is their perspective of what they want. In the scene of Armin talking to Zeke, he picks up a leaf in the sand, depicting a leaf similar to the ones that fall off of the tree they raced to as kids. But Zeke sees it as a baseball, something near & dear to his heart, & a symbolism of his relationship with the man who saved him, Ksaver. I took it as whatever they wanted to see in the sand, it was what they loved wanted. Similar to the scene in the blood, Eren reached in & grabbed hair/teeth, while Armin was able to pull out a clean seashell. While Armin desired to see the outside world & the wonders it has to offer, deep down in Eren he wanted the blood of his enemies, he wanted to crush them & murder them no matter what. In both scenes, the didn’t pick up anything different out of the sand/blood, they picked up exactly what they loved/desired. But the only difference was how they perceived it. AOT is the best series ever, I wish everyone would watch it.

The nuke in the end credits takes place 2 thousand years later as you can tell by the buildings and how far technology had advanced so it was more pointing to how war will always be a thing as long as there is more than 1 person in the world.

Erens actions weren't for nothing bc the cycle of war repeated. He achieved everything he wanted which was to let his friends live a long healthy life without war. Armin also succeeds as in the post credit scenes we can see thousands of years pass until the cycle of war repeats itself. The goal was never world peace forever as everyone knew that was impossible, but simply prolonging it long enough so his friends wouldn't have to worry about it, just so coincidentally happened that he also gave many generations that freedom before it ultimately reignited the cycle. This is as realistic of an ending as you could have, truly heartbreaking to know Mikasa and Eren likely never see eachother again forever separated by heaven and hell

@realwaifus5514
@realwaifus5514 - 25.11.2023 06:55

Personally I think the ending fumbles it a little by not putting enough emphasis on the peace before the cycle begins again. The thing that makes Armin the symbol of hope and goodness in this story is that he can see both the cruel joke that life is on a grander scale and the love that makes it worth living in spite of that on the smaller scale. The message is that life is an undeniably cruel cycle of violence that can only ever be paused but it’s what comes from the pauses that redeems the concept of life, that no matter how many times we resort to hatred and destruction it doesn’t invalidate the times where love wins out.

I don’t mind that the ending confirms that the cycle does eventually start again, if anything I’d say it’s better for it, I just wish we could have more of the peace to convey that the mere fact that peace can ever exist matters more than war being inevitable.

Nah, man. I'm pretty sure that whole ending was already redone. When you think about all this ish logically, from their viewpoints, Eren would NOT have forgotten why. The author would not, could not include in his manga the real answer to all of it, and the evidence I have is the after credits scene. Pretty sure author wanted Eren to finish off who was left, and show the results of that peace within paradis alone. And I'm pretty sure it would just be a brand new civil war. This episode seems like all the trite responses to human suffering that never really answer it all wrapped into one while bringing the real argument to the forefront in a backhanded manner: In the end, the you can't have war when all your enemies are dead.

Personally, I'm all for the Vinland Saga answer to human suffering - leave. You can't rule me if I just leave. Ending them all would be the preferable option, but when you aren't some jackoff with the power of the rumbling you make do.
