I do residential maintenance work by trade but have been writing for around a decade now but never wanted to write for a living and risk losing the art of it. To my fellow writers: you should absolutely go beyond “adding some words and there ya go” on your website/portfolio page😅. It’s maybe the most important place to showcase your skills. And it’s a potential difference maker as fas as getting hired. Make it benefit driven. Don’t talk about yourself too much. Focus on what you offer but frame it in a way that shows how you help clients. Research potential clients’ pain points and turn them into compelling benefits. Include a CTA. The copy you write here may be some of the most valuable copy you ever write, so make it count! Spend a few days on it at least. Or a week. Or two. (Also, don’t say “if not, that’s cool!” in your cold outreach. Big mistake. I would never hire a writer who used such classically weak verbiage. There are more creative ways to “soft sell” yourself without coming across as being overly “sales-y.”) Overall pretty great video! Thanks!!
