I think there is no need to defend or justify Shambook Vadh incident in the Ramayan,as it is interpolation by some unholy,unwise elements to substantiate casteism.Lord Rama has been portrayed as egalitarian ,humanitarian ,virtuous king .How could He have slayed Shambooka?There is nothing wrong in doing penance by a Shudra.This episode lacks consistency or coherence with the other incidents/episodes of Lord Rama,s Life.

I agree that one shud not judge old days with lens of our times, but then dont idealize people or kings of those times. Like the way certain people are idealizing Rama now a days.
