M1 air specifications 8or 16 gbram , sitora 512 gb ???

Hi Alex, how about if i currently have MBA M1 base model which is only have 8 gb of RAM, is it worth it that i upgrade to 14” MBP M1 Pro ? Because currently i already feel laggy when i develop an android app specially when I’m also using emulator. Thanks

M1 is not very fast, at least in this project. My machine is i7-10510U with 16G RAM and 256GB ssd, I build this project in 40s after cleaned.

The Apple Silicon lineup is like everything: the more you go up in that lineup, the less improvement you get for your money.
My strategy is to never go for the high-end, because that high-end will be next-year's middle end at a much more affordable price.
Also I've found, just like you are showing with the SDK, that often performance can be gained elsewhere than raw CPU power.

I think what's interesting with those chips is that the single thread performance is exactly the same, and I think that is why your tests are showing pretty similar results between M1, M1 Pro and M1 Max.

I have the confusion between macbook air M1 and macbook pro M1 coz I think M1 is enough. I’m mobile developer. Which machine should I buy?

I ran the same benchmark on my Zephyrus G14 (Ryzen 9 4900HS) and see similar numbers. Around 1'26". That cost me $1,450 in 2020 and I can game on it. Battery life isn't as good though, which isn't a problem for me.

Could you please take the latest gradle version (7.x) of this AndroidStudioBenchmark repository and make a video for us with MacBook Air M1 16GB, and also keeping a couple of Chrome tabs open in the background while the build is going on?

It'd also be great if you could show us the performance after a couple of hours of coding in the Android Studio. Is the performance going to degrade after long hours of coding? If yes, then how much (in terms of seconds)?

i retested this on my MBA M1 after the graddle was updated and made a video about it. the fatest i got was 1m 1s

the benchmark had its gradle update from 3.x to 7.x the results are even faster now

you can adjust the resolution scaling down a little on the 14 and it really makes a big difference with real estate on the smaller screen. You just need to have decent eye sight :)

A bunch of poor people holding to anything to justify their purchase. Macbook Air is good and enough to many people that being said don’t be stupid the Pro is the Pro.

Once seen all the videos on the M1 topic, I still prefer the M1 MBA or even the M1 MBP 13'' over the new ones.
Why? well I don't like how it looks the whole body, the nonsense notch "it would be different if it had face id or sensors in there", and the most obvious one the battery life.

Everyone seems to focus on performance, but I went for the pro because it supports 2 external displays vs only 1 on the M1. Also, once you spec the M1 up to 16GB & 512GB SSD the price difference was a lot less, and it felt worth it for the better processor, display, design, mag safe etc.

Id seriously get a Mac M1 Air if I could get it with 32gb of RAM, at this point all the M1 CPUs are beasts but the RAM is too precious, waiting for Air M2.

I was stuck with an old 300$ dell laptop for 6 years.I am a broke student, so i had to save up money for few years to buy a new laptop.And i bought an m1 air 8 months ago .It's 100% worth the price ,i love this computer.

I believe this test needs to be run few OS releases later because of software optimization

10 core cpu m1 pro should be fast than air, I will test it when get my mac.
