Metro Exodus Is Really Good (Review)

my only complaint is the beginning when you capture the train, god that entire scene feels like it goes on forever

i miss the tunnels hence the name metro

The fact that one of your qualifications for being an open world game is fast travel is a very sad commentary on the games industry

I ended up waiting until its Steam release. The wait was worth it though, because it is a legitimately fantastic game. Always loved the Metro games, and if this is the last one; it went out on a high note.
(Started reading the books these games are based on, and I highly recommend them to anyone who likes reading/audio books.)

This game is an immersive masterpiece

This game is so mid. It swings from high to low and balances out to mid. Highpoints the first Stalker like section and Metro like sections. Desert, bunker, forest was all low points. Plus it does that annoying BS thing takes all those resources weapons off you late game, because they can't balance the difficulty (DooM 3 anyone).

Worst thing about exodus is Artyom is a mute fuck, best thing, you can play this game without any launcher!

I loved exodus, but I wish there were more characters returning from 2033/last light.

We never find out if Khan is dead, we don’t know what becomes of Pavel, we know Ulman dies in the attack on D6, but besides Anna and Miller the Spartan Rangers we meet in exodus are all brand new faces.

I really want to play this but I cannot.

Not because I do not have the money, but because I do not have the space on my laptop for it.

I could get more space but I'd have to delete a lot of... files... like... some stalker mods that I need to finish. And some other games... I gotta finish them first.

The game is like... 100gb or somethin.

So I need 100gb plus, like... 20 gigabytes for memory or whatever.
That's a lotta space.

You can change button mashing so you just hold the button.

Honestly i been looking at this series for quite a while (im a fallout 3 and NV vet) but i been waiting for the trilogy to get on sale. Finally bought it as a bday present since the bundle is on sale

Ehhh it's ok.

I'm jealous of people who say this game runs well because holy shit I have had a horrible time and my specs are more than adequate. Even had to mess with Microsoft compatibility settings. Still runs like crap and has bad glitches but at least it isn't crashing every hour now.

Dudes… this game is slow, and somewhat frustrating and a tad clunky.

BUT…… I learned very quickly to be ok with that. It starts to feel like a real struggle and it feels punishing like it would be if you were on foot fighting for your life in a wasteland.

I thought this was another metro game, until I Saw a review. It really is the pinnacle of the Immersive Sim genre of our generation. Right up there with current Deus Ex and Prey 2016.

Yeah, I've waited until it was out on GOG, just to make sure there would be no post-purchase shenanigans. Bought it for less than a quarter of the price. That REALLY can't be good for business but at the end of the day it's their decission. With a pile of shame of literally several hundred games I don't mind waiting a couple of years for games to come to a plattform I like.

I've unlocked almost every achievement there is to unlock in this game (main game + DLCs). Time to move on to Tom Clancy's "The Division".

i just got this game today 3 years late but im sure im in for something great

Just wanted to point out that the creatures are one of the coolest aspects of the game, very creative designs and strats to deal with them, unlike just generic humans with guns, actually, human enemies are the more generic tipes of enemies, specially in a fps, hope you arent under the missconception that hyperrealysm is always better.

So, lemme make this shorter: Linear game disign with semi-usefull open world elements sprinkled arround with no real purpose, overly complicated gun condition, crafting and upgrading mechanics (just lemme shot the enemies ffs, I dont wonna manage 10 diferent condition factors during a fight), too long unskipable cutscenes, crashes and bugs on anything that is not a $5000 PC, stupid Karma system (never liked it in the first 2 games, why are there multiple endings in games that are based of of each other, makes no sense. You get one ending, but the next games continues from a diferent one. Alternate endings maybe work on games like Fallout3 but not here tbh, since the choices you can make are trivial ad limited and dont actually impact the story in any major way except showing diferent end scene. In Fallout3, there are legit long term consequences after certain interactions, that is why this mechanic works in that game) all that mixed with a long ass game time that actually does not suport the main point of the game (I.e. spending 30 minutes searching for some dumb weapon or weapon part is dumb gameplay. It is time filler gampleay, since if you are not to do it, there will be no consequences to the main gameplay).

Overall, better than most other crap in the recent years, but complete shit compared to the first 2 games and especially compared to all the opportunities that they had with this 3rd game

We are getting so close for this games setting to become a reality, it is scary.

Honestly just finished this game and dlcs and I can safely say this game is amazing, the gun play is amazing, the stealth is amazing, you actually CARE about all the characters, they actually feel like a family and a group of people with goals and dreams and their own personality, the train levels were very ingenious IMO , they really help you care about the characters making sure that you actually care about their well being in their respective levels, the good ending ( which is probably canon ) is bittersweet, you feel like while Miller dies , Artyom lives to see his dream of a colony fulfilled along with the Spartans, it’s a great conclusion to Artyom’s saga from back when he was just a metro dweller in Exhibition, meeting Khan and saving the baby dark one.

Damn this game sucks cock compared to the first 2. Why is the movement so stiff and abysmally slow? First few hours of the campaign are trash and control is taken away from the player way too many times. The shooting feels bad and theres no satisfaction to killing enemies. How is this game "really good"? Its another generic shooter.

Ashes Afterglow reminds me of Metro Exodus, both have a post-apocalyptic setting, both have you searching for resources to upgrade your weapons at work benches, and in both the choices you make will affect the ending you get. Anywho, if you want more post apocalyptic goodness check out Ashes Afterglow.

The game was a masterpiece. After playing Last Light, I wanted more and both were just phenomenal.

So if you've never played a Metro game before, start with this, or 2033? Personally, I'd rather start with the better game.

@GmanLives, I've played all 3 Metro games. The new game Exodus is pretty and its great to have larger open environments. But to be honest I didn't like Exodus or it's DLC nearly as much as the first two games. That and you have to actively not kill people in certain areas or else you won't get the good ending. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Well, way to make me feel like the odd one out. Waiting until now to play this finally, and I fucking hate it beyond belief. Reading the comments here how it's been a life changing experience for so many, and I was so bored out of my skull throughout the game I got halfway through the dead city, stopped playing, and uninstalled.
I really tried liking it too. I love immersive, character and story driven games. I love taking my time in hubs just walking around talking to characters, discovering radio stations, etc. It's not like I was playing this 'wrong'. It just never grabbed me. One of my biggest issues is probably the voice acting (tried both Russian and English), which is unfathomably terrible. The audio mixing is also shit, which makes it sound like no one is actually present in any of the scenes. When you've got a problem like this in a game where I'm supposed to care about my fellow NPCs, the writing better be stellar. And it isn't. Everyone's monodimensional. There's the American. The flirt. The gruff one. The other gruff one. There's ever only one thing to their characters, it's maddening. How is this good character writing? How do you people care about any of them? Even Ana has literally zero personality beyond she loves the MC.
Speaking of MC, the choice to make him a mute is ridiculous. So many times in the game they're trying to reach you over the radio because you're lost, and you can't let them know you're ok? I'm assuming when you can hear them, they should be able to hear you. Stupid.
Gunplay is adequate and graphics are gorgeous, but too many technical glitches (still, to this day) so immersion is broken every few minutes. I had an entire level (taiga) bug out on me, because it would hard lock whenever I was detected, forcing a 100% stealth run.

Exodus already had me sold from Volga. How they 'opened-up' the world, the simplified crafting and survival mechanics, and basically being in Artyom's shoes, cautiously at awe in the world being open to you after having gone thru the metro hell from 2033 and Last Light.

Just when I thought the game is already amazing, that one primary chapter just had me sold even further: Yamantau.

You're already hopeful of the government willing to help out in this open world, and then BAM! There was no government, but an entire group of cannibals who ambushed the gang, leading to your wife and her father being captured. And when that happened, never once in my experience playing FPS games did I get pumped, enraged, and fucking trigger happy bringing out my Kalash and Ashot and gunning down every single one of these monsters who are about to 'prepare' and 'feast' in your loved ones.

Just finished it today and got the good ending. It is definitely a game of the decade that defines FPS games. Thanks for the review, man! Cheers!

basically zero load times also. My only complaint is the sprinting is very slippy

I've been putting off playing this game cuz when I stopped in the first environment there were zombie like mutants and it really just put me off considering the first 2 games didnt have that shit

I loved the first two. haven't picked this one up yet.
