If you intake 1200 calories during a famine your not gonna gain weight by storing 10 calories in fat a day. Quack!!! Now if you intake 1200 calories from total junk your gonna lose muscle and gain fat and be very unhealthy.

Gary definitely makes a better argument. Insulin resistance is very real. The type of calorie makes a big difference in our weight…anyone who understands nutrition should know this.

10 calories per day over 20 years makes you fat, and all those obese women were doing was storing those 10 calories per day, except that he said they got obese quickly, so no.

The biggest things to consider imo is to stay away from sugar and processed foods. Processed foods are the devil. Corporations design food to poison you and slowly kill you. They put sugar in things where it isn't needed, preservatives and chemicals in everything. Other countries don't allow the poisons and chemicals in their food that we have over here. Cooking your own food and meal prepping is vital. Fresh ingredients always.

It sounds like the first guy was claiming that your body could somehow retain fat in a famine by choosing to keep just 10 kcals in your fat. Then claims that there's nothing in the laws of physics that means that can't happen. Huh? If you need 2000 kcal maintenance and you're in a famine eating just 200 kcals per day, your body isn't going to "keep" you fat - that would be violating the first law of thermodynamics?

I disagree with intake energy balancing part. Your metabolism goes up when you eat more autocompensating for the extra calories. Estephan contradicts his own theory of the brain and closed loops feedback. Of course if in the intake goes way too off then part of that extra energy would get converted to fat if not used

10 calories extra a day .... at most, you would gain 1/2 lb a year, and every year the weight gain would be even less .... maybe after 30 years or so that person woulda gain 5 total extra lbs ... you could easily lose that 5 extra lbs in a week of strict dieting and exercise

Having different perspectives is good, as long as one of those perspectives isn't a deliberate lie. Gary is actually trying to manipulate people into believing that if you're 500 pounds and you eat 2000 calories a day you magically won't lose weight because "muh carbs". That is a flat out, unabashed lie. Calories in, calories out. This is anecdotal, but considering his "study" was a paltry 2 weeks and the "findings" contradicted literally every single other study done on the matter, I can tell you I personally lost over 60 pounds exclusively eating ramen and junk food. The food doesn't really matter, if you simply eat less of it you will lose weight, no matter what. If you can't lose weight it's because you're eating too much and consuming too many calories. That's all there is to it.

These dudes have both completely overthought weight gain and loss. blah blah to try to over complicate it without any direct scientific physiology of how a specific person in a vacuum givin lifestyle and independent attributes of vie to burn sugars and energy, just to look smart. eat protien , run a mile a day split before and after a workout, and workout a muscle group everyday with little carbs for 60 days and you’ll drop at least 20 pounds if your 20 percent over weight.

Anytime I see these videos, I always hear calorie in vs calorie out which is correct, but they never stress the importance of what calories you are putting in. If you don’t eat enough protein, you lose muscle, if you eat a donut, it provides no value for the amount of calories, even if you are below maintenance

Just replicate the pre-obesity epidemic diet. And you’ll lose weight. Ask your grandparents what they used to eat. And ask them how many people were fat. It’s complicated because the food industry want it to be. Sugar, white flour bad. Everything else good. Simples.

My personal experience has been that restricting carbohydrates improves my blood glucose level leading to greater insulin sensitivity and a loss of weight. It may be that years of poor diet has created an inability to cope with a high carb load and that idea is supported by the fact that while I can improve my HbA1c to near normal, any return to a diet containing a greater proportion of carbohydrates leads to a degradation of insulin sensitivity and weight gain. My own hypothesis is that humans while young and healthy can consume a diet balanced in all 3 macros and provided they don't punish their liver and pancreas with years of excessive sugar and refined carbohydrate consumption will remain metabolically healthy throughout their lives. Modern diets however are so replete with junk foods that a huge proportion of people are damaging their organs and ultimately only the strictest control of carbs will enable a return to more normal weight and metabolic health. Just as we can wear out our joints over time, we can also wear out our internal organs. We can take remedial steps to cope but the damage once done is probably permanent.

it's so fucking simple not to be fat. this is all bullshit, eat healthily and don't over eat. eating healthily is basic, avoid highly processed shit and sodas. eat a good mix of meat and veg and get some fucking exercise.

every time i see a fat person they are always eating and drinking the same shit, non of them get anywhere near the amount of exercise to justify half that amount but these "scientists" will argue over tiny differences in chemistry while the fat fuck is shoveling fast food down his throat and washing it down with a lot of soda.

People can ask other people if they have good or bad diets endlessly BUT many people don’t really know what a good diet is. My father told me one time that pizza was health food. 😵‍💫🤪😳🤷🫣🎉 ….”HE WAS SERIOUS !!!!!” So my guess is that a lot of these dietary studies are extremely flawed. I’ve asked some people if they have good diets and those same people say yes. Then when I visit with them I see the way they eat and their diet stinks !!! They always eat desert after meals and always have junk food on the counter ready to grab whenever they feel the urge. Their veggies are always greasy ( butter added ). Over all they have bad diets but the say their diets are good. So how can anyone “study” or have studies of peoples diets with good results ??? I don’t trust those studies for that reason. .

I have put this to test on myself. High carbs and high insulin increases fat storage. Calorie counting is not relevant. I gradually built up fat regardless of how much physical activity I did. Sure it helped controlled my weight but didnt improve. I stopped insulin and lowered my carb intake (and increased dietary fat and protein). With the same workout regime, i lost around 10kgs in 2 months.

Someone explain me why this happened and i will start believing the naive hypothesis i.e. CiCo. Our body is not a diesel motor. It is much more complex than that and is fully managed by hormones

Gary Taubes doesn't believe in calories in calories out, or basic thermal dynamics. You can show him 100 studies proving him wrong and he'll always say you didn't do the study right. Meanwhile, he can't show you his data, but he'll hang on that one study out of 29 with bogus data, and he won't shut up.
