Lived in the downtown of a major American city for 25 years and this class of people still exist. There are a lot of different tears among people who live out on the streets and there is this low, low, low tear that you can watch and really wonder how they can possibly still be alive. These are people who will barely have clothes and have absolutely nothing.

My life was and is similar America. Its very rare... VERY RARE but still occasionally happens today. People fall through cracks no faults of their own.. it is possible

I would have recommended that these people go back to school and get an Accounting degree. It offers steady work with good benefits, although it is a bit boring.

It’s truly sad that in the US I think people are becoming reduced to this. Do you have the working homeless the disabled, homeless, drug addicted, homeless the alcoholic homeless, the tent, homeless, the tarp homeless, the cardboard homeless, the under bridge, homeless, but it seems there are a lot of people who are so far outside the system that might be unimaginable to re-assimilate unimaginable to find some manner of living in dignity.

If there are any young girls or women listening to this, remember that things haven’t changed much for women/older women as you see in some of the comments here. You should get a good education in a field where you can earn a “more than decent” living ( because over the years inflation will eat away at your wages ), get an excellent job, do not marry, do not have children—-do travel, build healthy friendships, keep your body healthy and free of drugs and alcohol, and especially build your savings and save for retirement. ( Hire an excellent CPA and investment agent. ) Do not ever tell anyone how much money you have. If you get lonely, get a dog—-they are very loyal, loving, and fun. When you get older, if you are just dying to be around children, you can always donate your time, when you are older, to mentor some young children in middle-age or even after you retire. Having children is extremely expensive in today’s world, and women are often saddled with the majority of the care for children—and are often blamed when something goes wrong. Over 50% of marriages end in divorce in the United States. I don’t have to tell you the losses you will suffer in divorce. There is no investment counselor anywhere who would ever advise you to invest in any stocks or mutual funds with such guaranteed losses as you see in divorce. Therefore, never put your hopes in a man ( or some women for that matter ). Focus on the reality of our world, and that you often have no place in this “man’s world” and must fight for every gain and achievement. Be certain to vote for those who champion the rights of women and children, and although this is controversial, I would advise you never to get mixed up in/support cults, or even established religions, that subjugate women. Never give your money away. Invest in YOURSELF first. Then, when you are older, and well settled, you can donate to reputable charities for women, and especially, for children. I wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous life.

People nowadays say they're poor. They still have mobile phones, cars, huge tv's. (that's my experience of friends and family who say they're poor.
