Your videos are very informative but your so dead set that you don't waist time and get right to the point that you waist minutes every video telling us how to the point you are kinda funny but definitely not straight to the point

Some HTs do have sub-tones for both transmission and reception, but what was said is still true: it's not so much for privacy, but rather a feature to avoid unintentional interference from others who might happen to be on the same frequency you and your peers are, as well as to avoid interfering into their conversation. It's useful when all parties are civil and just want to avoid nuisance.

But the subtones, DCS/CTSS, are standardized codes. If malicious third-parties wanted to listen to or interfere with your comm, it would be trivial to do so.

I am new to this Channel, I don’t know if he is having Fun, making Sarcasm or paranoia? I couldn’t tell which one and to be honest I don’t care.
But he is informative on his topics, sometimes he’s the only one talking about certain topics for radio-stupid people like me, but I am learning from his videos, and I skip the non so informative parts, so NO COMPLAINTS FROM ME.

FCC stands for effing complete control.
Just switched from a coded channel to a religious fm station.
Explain THAT!
Was hearing Morse, Russian, Spanish and CA chunks.
Warned about coding on gmrs and things went silent until my radio switched to an fm religious station

My new Baofeng UP-69 has the new privacy feature that the FCC just recently approved. It has LIMITED new GMRS channels 23-30. It's great that they would give us pleabs such cool features.

Only true way to get privacy on GMRS channels , is to get a DMR radio “commercial “ with a encrypted code on that channel this way without having that encryption code it will come out gargled can’t here the conversation. And those are exspensive.

Privacy codes keep you from stopping what your doing and trying to listen everytime someone who's not in your group talks on your channel

Good day to you! I have two questions for you sir:
I was wondering what is the difference between the different codes used, if it's relevant.
What are the effect of using codes on the Tx and or the Rx?
Thanks 👍

467.900 is used by Target in my area. Radio Reference shows they use 205 DPL. Can someone explain to me what that means?

I can hear everything they transmit on my UV5R. But for fun, I set DCS to 205 and I can't hear them anymore. But if I remove the DCS tone, I hear them again.

Question, if you and your buddy use a different code on a busy channel, the other people on that busy channel still can hear the conversation? Thus interfering with said busy channel and making it more busy for the other people?

I'm no expert nor am I a Sad Ham and I have a question about "tones." I understand that there is no "security" with tones and anyone on a channel can HEAR the communication between two people using tones, but aren't those just a squelch de-activator? So, if one of them is transmitting and someone else keys his radio at the same time, won't that interfere with his transmission, or is that filtered out somehow? Wouldn't they be ahead to switch to another channel?

Once there I promptly traded them for the new Baofeng UP-69, some dried shredded squid, and two cases of room temperature beer. Ok, so I pretty much understand the privacy code thing, except for one thing. If my friend and I are talking on say channel 16, with our "privacy codes" on, and some one nearby, with perhaps a more powerful unit, talks on the same channel, at the same time, will it interfere with our communication, even if we don’t actually hear him?

Where I live in Nova Scotia, Canada tones are used for commerical radio licenses to have many companies with the same frequency for simplex operation. In my city at least 6 different companies have licenses for the same frequency, they all have different tones on them. By design they are just out of range of each other and are not mobile so it works.

I would only use them in repeator inputs. It stops static from triggering the repeator or others using a repeator on the same ch far away from triggering your repeator.

I use the tones when we’re traveling so as to minimize receiving other people’s transmissions. I’ve only had my radios for about a year, and I’ve yet to encounter any areas with much chatter at all. I’d guess most folks are just using their cell phones.

I am not a fan of 'privacy' tones. I have a question though. Wouldn't the guys using tones 'walk over' the guys not using tones because they couldn't hear them when they were transmitting? Seems like it is bad radio etiquette to use tones.?

GMRS is not very popular in my area yet so scanning channels to find out my range on my new radio is difficult to do when no one responds to me because they are using the stupid tones. I have talked to a couple of people so I know that the radio works.

I wish everyone would watch your video. Except for repeater tones,...... tones suck.
