I have seen the movie a dozen times since 2016 but as of 2023 one survivor of the Indianapolis is left.
the last member of the Doolittle raid of April 18th 1942 died in 2019. almost all the Korean war veterans are gone or so it seems . few WWII vets are left in Japan. only the Vietnam vitrines are left or will be in the next few years. lessons form World war two should be learned even Korea and Vietnam . the only ones left are from the end of World war two those who saw the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as children or teenagers. or those who lived through the holocaust as children. or the Japanese occupation of China July 7th 1937 to September 9th 1945.
You tube's Kings and Generals is doing a series on the Pacific war(and has been since October 2021 until 2025) and pod beam also as a podcast by Craig the owner of the pacific war Channel who does the podcast of each episode.

My great uncle Edgar Harrell was in this disaster and thankfully survived after being stranded at sea for many days. He wrote a book called Out of The Depths which details his incredible experience. I would highly recommend it!

My buddy survived this but would never talk about it very traumatic..he died several yrs ago...ago...he was on the history channel yrs ago...Fennimore Wisconsin...

Great film

I appreciate the humour of the jokes every Navy sees about homosexuality. But god dammit it takes some courage to put yourself in a position where you can be killed like this. Slow, cold, painful, isolated, using all your energy just to stay alive. All for your nation. The world, and naval combat is different now, but past and present sailors really have my respect, as they should.

Deserves a remake with the same cast as the cgi was utter garbage. Didn't do the film justice.

First time I saw Nicholas Cage was in Valley Girl back in the day. Open Water, the two actors swam with real sharks, but you didn't see them get bit. Not sure what kind of sharks they wanted them to use. Everything is CGI, now.

I watched this movie a couple years ago and it’s always stayed with me 900 men were in the water and a little over 300 survived for 5 days they were in the water waiting for help what a terrible way to die not only are you facing your own fear but your watching your friends being eaten by sharks. I heard when they ate the dead they started feeding on the living. 50 a day the worst loss of life from shark attacks in history. I’m in my 50s and I never knew about this part of history. The titanic and other catastrophe’s but not this. I stumbled on this movie one day and I’ll never forget.

Watched this recently.. the sheer hell these men went through, amazing some actually survived!!

Man i completely forgot about this movie but when i saw on netflix 72 dangerous animal and when they mentioned white tip shark and talked about USS indianapolis i watched it again immediately

Some seriously terrible acting and bad special effects and Nicolas Cage looks like post mortem pale and bloated

There is absolutely nothing low budget looking about this film, it looks fantastic.
