I think that Peronism is really similar to French Gaullism: in France, every politian claims to be gaullist, from the right, to the so-called "social-gaullists", and now even the far-right (even though they still find a way to minimise and/or defend Vichy France), in a way that Gaullism is what you want it to be. Peron and De Gaulle have also many similarities, such as the strong paternalistic figure, protectionists policies, also strange links to fascism (the Communists openly called De Gaulle a fascist), mainly seen in the semi military coup that made him came back to power (led in part by Salan, a Petainist), and the Constitution he wrote, which gives many powers to the President (an idea that, in Italy for example, inspired many fascists such as Accame, and also some shady shit with the CIA).

Peronism sounds like nothing so much as opportunistic blue-collar economic nationalism.

As an American I notice parallels between FDR and Perón's relationship with indigenous peoples. FDR is credited with securing the indigenous vote for Democrats because they only got the right to vote in 1924 and he helped them immensely with his social programs shortly thereafter. Similarly Perón helped elevate previously invisible indigenous peoples to active participants in the state

They all start out calling themselves Peronist and lean on his legacy then move in their own direction and path like Kirchnerism which adopted its own social democratic and anti neoliberal spin to it or Menemism which had its own right wing conservatism to it
