Best BUDGET Tube Microphones For Vocals!!! | Telefunken, Lewitt & Warm Audio

lol I guess taste is key, thought the CV12 and WA-251 sounded the best and the worst two were the TF39 and Lewis Pure Tube, the WA-C8000 sat in the middle for me, but I prefer soaring crispy air over warm up front and full for this song at least. I'd love to have the 251, Pure Tubend wa-8000 just to have a mic for each use case, style of mix. Amazing video man!

I'm wondering why you left out so many other simlar price range tube mics out of this..Knowing that some of them surely were better than your worse one you have. You said the Warm Audio WA-251 had "9 different Polar Patterns" is this correct??

Just returned the Telefunken for the WA-8000. The Telefunken was way too dark for my voice!

What is weird for me is when i hear *IT SOUNDS GREAT TO MY EARS* ... it mean a lot to me because it mean *whatever the gears you use* > it will always sounds good for a lot of people ... good plugins or not !
This can be confirm by this fact **the most part of the people do not have GOOD EARS, great headphones or great monitors to a deep listen and > to capture the 40 hours you gave on a song !
They don't care about a good mixes made with a 10,000$ microphone ... Yes, intellectual fraud & scam are kings in this world !

Just my opinion, but I would lose the autotune. You have a really nice voice; imperfection is what makes us sound human and compelling (IMHO).

I use the WA-251 a lot. However my newest microphone is The SA-87t from Stam Audio. It comes in at about $1000.00 with shipping from Chile if you order ahead. The wait is worth it. It is a one of a kind microphone. Stam Audio is the real deal to get clones tat are made with the highest quality at a reasonable price. I wanted to get the SA-47, A Neumann U-47 clone. It is about 2000.00 with shipping. My wife had a medical issue come up and Josh (the owner) let me switch. If I ever get the money to open a distribution shop Stan Audio would be one I would want first.

For sure taste issues, which sounds best. But Telefunken and Lewit have kinda better sound on these examples.

Personally, i would choose the TF 39 and the Pure Tube. In this comparison, the TF 39 sounds the best Tone wise. It sounds Warmer and Smoother more than the others which is exactly what you need in a Tube Mic. The Pure Tube sounds Big and Thick more than all of the other mics which is exactly what the Pros look for when it comes to microphones

Wa251 is my most used mic in the studio. We own wa8000, Neumann u87, rode k2, ntk, Gemini II, z5600! Also a Luke Audio y56 handmade tubemic from Nashville.
My go to mic is still often the WA251!

nice test with the dynaimc parts the focus in the upper mids to cut thru on a phone speaker probably the 8000, its down to not too much saturation in the mixing skills not to make tubes sound reedy and washy up top, retaining the centre definition, the puretube was quite cutting too

Too much compression and eq on these vocals. Great voice though! would sound more commercial if you’d ease up on the eq

i have the tf51 and im incredibly happy i got it. tf39 sounds great though. can never go wrong with telefunken.

As I expected - the Lewitt Pure Tube is the worst microphone of all for my taste. I've owned mics of this brand before and in general the neutral cold sound I can understand on FET mics from Lewitt.... But why such neutrality on a tube mic? More precisely the opposite: why on a neutral mic is there a tube? What role does it fulfill? I answer myself - none. It's just marketing. The whole point of a tube is to color the sound, but there is no coloring in the Lewitt. What is the point of this microphone's existence is not clear to me.
Some will say that the tube will show itself in post-processing - yes, it is possible. But in my opinion a tube microphone should sound distinctly colorful even in unprocessed or weakly processed form.

Why didn't you take the WA47 in this comparison?

i recemend try using the shure sm58 its a great xlr mic and its only $100 and can be way better if you have Native Instruments Komplete Audio 1 amp

Are you aware that you are killing your mics by positioning them with the capsule at the top? Tubes heat up and heat rises damaging the capsules. Turn them upside-down so that there is no heat damage. SAVE YOUR MICS!!!
