Studying trends of Gross value add or GVA in agriculture is very critical in developing strategy for agriculture sector. Livestock sector has shown an exemplary growth in contribution to Agri-GVA from 22% in 2011-12 to 30% in 2018-19, growing at 15% YOY. It may be due to rise in consumption of milk and meat products.Dairy and meat products need to be tracked separately while developing strategy as they show a different consumption and growth pattern. India is the largest milk producer in the world and is showing around 13.9% growth in terms of value output.

Coca Cola India launched spiced buttermilk Vio as part of its region specific strategy . Buttermilk is a very popular Indian fermented milk product. It s spiced and flavored as per the regional preferences.. Vio spiced buttermilk is a gift to the community in which Coca Cola operates.
Brand Vio was launched by coca cola India in 2016 with a diversified portfolio of value added dairy beverage segment.
5. Which milk must I take
The whole world is becoming environmental friendly and COVID will make many more joining this movement soon. In USA consumption of almond milk has grown by over 250% in last 5 years. It has led to closure of a few large dairies including Borden Dairy and Dean Foods.
Oxford has done a research on water, carbon emissions and land use footprint for dairy as well as dairy alternatives. 200 ml of almond milk requires 74 litres of water which is equivalent to water used during shower. Almond milk has a much higher footprint than soy and oat milk and it also impacts the natural eco system too.
6. Epigamia launched plant based yogurt
. Epigamia brand is synonymous to greek yogurt and smoothies in Indian market. The brand has now diversified its product portfolio in 100% plant based yogurt line using coconut milk. All dairy companies are looking at emerging demand in dairy alternative segment as a challenge. Epigamia has introduced this new plant based yogurt in two flavors as unsweetened and coconut jaggery. It will be the first 100% plant based product launch by the Indian greek yogurt brand . The product is free from any preservative. Epigamia has joined hands with Recykal to collect back the packaging used and recycle it.
7. Global dairy prices

Recent auction at global dairy trade platform on June 17th has shown around 2 % increase in dairy products price Index. SMP showed a 3.1% increase to new levels of USD 2609 per MT followed by WMP at USD 2829 per MT with an increase of 2.2% .
The decline in butter prices continued with new price of USD 3597 per MT showing a decline of 1 % over last fortnight. Anhydrous Milk fat showed slight improvement of around 1% at USD 3993 per MT.The prices of SMP and ghee were found to be in the range of Rs 230-270 per Kgs for SMP and Rs 4300-Rs 4800 per 15 Kgs tin for ghee in whole sale markets. Butter prices are being quoted around Rs 230 per Kgs.
