I have to disagree a little here. The fasting being hard doesn't mean we don't love God; our desires are strong, and the sinful nature cannot be overcome unless God gives strength. Fasting is meant to humble ourselves, and to show us how weak we are.

Every Lent since I came back to the LORD, I give up something new and I do something new, each time. I do this, not because I'm obligated to and not because I love doing it, but rather because I love the Lord Jesus and I'm giving these things or actions up for His sake during Lent, including Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and the Resurrection. Each Lent, I challenge myself to give up something new, something more difficult to give up than the previous Lent and all of the previous years of Lent. Last time was fasting — skipping a meal each day did chastise me for the LORD's sake. This year, I will fast if I break my vows, but otherwise, I'm giving up cussing and blasphemies, which are two things I also struggle with. My mouth has absolutely no filter, so this is going to be very difficult for me. If I swear or cuss or blaspheme on the day I'm supposed to be calm, collected, and withholding, then I have said to the LORD in a prayer that I will not taste food for my entire workday.

As someone who has been vegetarian for 20 years, I don't expect anybody who loves me to give up meat, this is my personal choice. What I would prefer, is for you to try and source your meat from a place that raises animals humanely. Lord God did not want us to treat animals the way we do in factory farming, it's cruel. Love should extend not only to human but to the animal kingdom as well.

Prayers, Fasting must go hand in hand with refraining from Sinning with a Pure, Loving, Humble Heart/Spirit/Thoughts/Intentions. Fasting is sacrificing, less of oneself & more of God! Fasting, prayers, good deeds must be done in secret as whatever is done in secret will be rewarded by God!

We used to fast by eating a single small meal once a day for 40 days & whenever I would fast every Friday etc! But one mustn’t do anything bad at all!

Its not the idea of fasting that is a problem. It is the problem when you do it for the sake of tradition in the flesh and do not do it with a pure heart. Just like how when Jesus condemned the Pharisees for their adherence to rigid legalism and tradition over Gods Law

We should be fasting frequently from a faithful and genuine heart with the right purpose in mind. With Repenting in mind. Fasting once a year for sins and giggles or thinking you're actually accomplishing something is not right. Fast AND Pray. Read and study the Bible, The Word of God.
