Looks like an alchemist has been at work on this one XD. Unfortunately there's a lot of fake restauration videos, not just of guitars either. It's apparently an algorithm friendly genre and easier to fake than to do with something thats actually as decayed as this thing looks.

While a agree with 99.9% of this video... wood holds moisture and it is quite common to find rusted screws especially in guitars that are kept in humid environments.

The second thing is coke actually will eat away verdigris and corrosion quite well. Ive used it for said purpose several times.

Actually you can remove rust with coke and some elbow grease. Coke does have a high enough concentration of phosphoric acid to breakdown rust, however it is much easier to use regular old phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid, or sulfuric acid(but that chemicals can be extremely dangerous without taking precautions).

I do agree that this is fake though.

One thing not mention is plating chrome parts is normally copper plated then nickel plated then chrome. Chrome is tranceparrent it the Nickel that give the colour. Copper cuts down the amount Nickel required reducing cost, chrome can turn green due to the copper underneath and be buffed off . This happened to my USA jazz bass back plate it went a bit green , as I restore motorbikes I have the tools to bring the finish back. If the cleans parts are not cleaned regularly they quickly start deteriorate. Belgium alum is a good cleaner to refresh chrome at the final stage as it contains wax

I have seen perfect paint work yet the chrome was shot due to poor chrome or damp. The toy car is not steal, coke works very well at cleaning manzak or aluminium, leaves parts dull but clean finish also works on copper.

Using electrolysis is also a genuine method of revering rust damage though not seen coke for the bath. Look up this method it’s good for machine parts as no metal is removed.

It’s surprising what happens to stuff in sheds or garages, stuff can deteriorate at one side but not the other in the same garage.

Is the guitar a road worn series yes I think that 100% correct.

Was recently at a car show and there was a custom car which was totally rusted all over. I talked to the guy and he said it was special paint which gives the effect. Very clever and effective.

I bet that fizzy action is just baking soda (basic) dumped into white vinegar (acidic) and it makes fizzy carbon dioxide bubbles, like those grade school volcano kits! Just add red food coloring! 😂

Actually these videos can be very instructive, such as the one where a guy fixes a hole in an old classical guitar with ramen noodles. Not certain if he added the sauce packet too.

Not even 44 seconds in... and I'm reminded of my grandfathers guitar (cheap strat copy he gave me before he passed from cancer) I looked up one thing special on it to see if it could be made playable again, Instantly after that search I was bombarded by the company who made it asking if I would like to purchase another (Can't replace the fact it was my grandfather's which I told them) only to be met by them telling me it's not worth it and to by another. This went on for 6 months until I lost my cool and told them where to shove it. Loving the fact that you call out businesses like this (which you already have made a video about said brand) keep up the good content.

Hi, i Agree, that there´s a LOT of Fake on this. But, i don´t know if anybody else mentioned it before: most parts in such a design are not pure Steel. Most of them are either Chrome or Nickel plated. And some are made form Sheet metal, that contains Copper in it´s alloy. On the other hand there is often a copper plating under the Chrome, which ist used as a primer on the base material because of it´s high performance when using galvanisation. And yes, i have seen this copper green color on old Stuff in my workshop. But as i said first. The pure amount of rust without much, much damage on the wooden parts and the finish even inside the screew holes must be fake.
And btw. Coke can remove rust, because of the acids in it. but it´s no wonder stuff to fill up all the dents of gone metal. So don´t get me wrong. I totaly agree this is fake, but for some fake busting it´s good to be sure if all arguments are rock stabel. Keep on and on rockin´.

Don't care if it is fake or not but i brought an old guitar that was stored in a damp place , the body was made from a two piece fibre type wood and it was swollen at the join , when i removed all the screws they had rust from top to bottom, all exposed chrome was fine and polished up well and the frets were fairly clean but a little tarnished as was anything that was in the cavitys 😊

Honestly, I don't have a problem with fake restorations, as long as the thing actually gets restored. I'm absolutely tired of fake videogame console restorations where the dude throws screens on soapy water buckets, grinds off parts of stuff that shouldn't be, and by the end literally has to use another console to show the ''ending'', or records it before ruining the stuff in the first place.

the wood finish itself is too .. perfect. there's no oxidization. if it was left in a barn/shed, the outer surface of the headstock and the body would have oxidized, turning it a semi-matte or matte. the 'shine' on the finish (minues the road worn original sections) on that one is nicer than the mim strat clone i have in the garage that was abused by a previous owner.

you can also see the circle from the cnc mount hole in the foil.

as for the green, chrome plating uses copper layers in some methods. these methods are usually _cheap_. which tells you they replaced the original hardware with cheap clone parts. the frets are 100% no. i just cleaned that mim strat and a GIOs frets, they still have crud on them, and i spent long enough with some 600 grit red 3m pad my hands hurt for two days.

no dremel? no honesty.

as for the other bit, coke used to be capable of stripping metal. the current formulas can't. they haven't been able to for quite a while.

this suspect channel is fully staged.

This is a great analysis of that fraud video. I have some info for you on my take to back up some of your stuff as well as I am pretty confident I know what that white powder was. First, i recently refreshed my girlfriend's electric that's 16 years old. First, her guitar is in way better shape, but, get this, her tuners did have some light greenish stuff on her tuners, primarily the backside and almost translucent. Turns out it was the bluish grease/lube leaking out, just looked greenish because of the satin finish of her tuners. Wiped right off with what I'm about to tell you next. While researching the best product to, preferably home-based, clean up her metal hardware of dust and very mild corrosion I found the recipe of salt, vinegar and water. Almost like a foot soak, but for guitar hardware. I thought , while it was soaking, dentures are cleaned using baking soda because it creates an agitation effect when mixed with vinegar. Presto, bubbled up just like in the video that you questioned. And believe me, a little salt and 50/50 mix of vinegar and water and throwing some baking soda in there to agitate it, it cleans the shit out of hardware. Her Floyd Rose bridge came out looking almost factory new with just a quick rinse of water after taking it off. And this recipe will neutralize rust, BUT, it will not remove badly rusted areas as I found out as 2 very small spots of embedded rust on the washers for her tuners didn't come off but were neutralized and changed color. Moving on... I have a 1989 super strat (a Westone model, not Fender) and was struck by the fact the 1989 Westone Dimension used the same exact tuners and knobs as her 2007 Luna Andromeda guitar... but the 1989 guitar moved a lot with me, saw a lot of bad conditions, abuse, storage sheds, and humidity. That 34 year old guitar looks brand new compared to that guitar in the fraud video that you correctly point out is likely just 13 years old. Yeah, my 1989 has rust, but as you said, only on surface areas, anything below wood level looks new, such as the screw threads. Can't believe someone deliberately took a factory relic guitar and tried to pass it off as a historic "barn find" classic!! LOL Keep up the great investigative work!

I don't know why anyone would bother faking this, except in the hope of lots of likes and advert revenue.
It was obvious when the frets had two colours of "corrosion" which would normally give pitting and require fret replacement, and they polished up in seconds, no pitting visible.
The "water and white spirit" is actually vinegar, and the fizzing is when he puts sodium bicarbonate in there. It's a common Internet theme "clean anything with this weird trick using only household chemicals".

See tubehandlesSuck comment below it looks to me like the parts were painted with a weak acid possibly sulphuric this will promote the rust appearance however rust leaves pits, Re the coke - coke is food acid aka phosphoric acid - phosphoric acid is a de rusting agent i prefer mine with out sugar and use it dilute for de rusting things but be prepared to deal with the rust pits it leaves behind

The amout of damp necessary to cause that amount of rusting would surely have affected the lacquer a lot more and those rusted screws seem to come out a lot easier than any I've ever encountered that were rusted so badly - plus the screw holes look far too clean.
The pickup pole pieces should be red with rust, so should the unwound strings. The nickel wound strings should be as green as the frets. The dirt on the body should be far harder to clean off... and who the heck would leave an expensive guitar in a shed anyway..?
It's quite normal for steel components to be given a thin copper plating before plating with nickel or chrome to help the latter stick to the steel and nickel tends to corrode to a blueish green colour, but you'd have to leave it in the sea for several decades to get it to corrode through the plating so badly and it's doubtful that much green would be visible from a few microns of copper

The way that YT works now, it rewards the fakers. A monetised video makes money if it has lots of clicks, obviously, but the comments also matter a lot. YT does not care if a comment is positive or negative, they all count to increase the videos score and therefore more money for the maker. Making fake videos of all kinds is a way to get lots of comments and clicks, so using bad methods and making mistakes all provoke comments and therefore money. Twoodford has commented on this several times.

The 'oxidized' frets are a dead giveaway for me. In the closeup image it looks to me like brushstrokes where a mint green paint was brushed on. The restorer probably rubbed mineral spirits or even just alcohol on the frets to remove the paint. For the rusty hardware, if it was painter, he probably dunked the parts in an alcohol water bath.

It is common practice for some dudes to make these fake video's. The gun restoration video's are even worse. They spray all kinds of fake dirt and corrosion on top of whatever materials. Knowing that the average viewer has no clue about metallurgy, they get away with it. I wouldn't mind if they did so without making money of it, but having over a million views is just disgusting. What a scam.
