MacBook for School - BUYING GUIDE! (2023)

I’m debating a MacBook Pro vs. a MacBook Air. I want to be able to use my laptop for photography editing and also to store the majority of my photos. I have external hard drives but I don’t trust them and really want the 4TB of storage. Is it still reasonable to purchase the MacBook Pro?

I have a macbook air 13 inch 1.1 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5. I find with little things like having two tabs open or running testing software on my computer my fan comes on all the time and it is very annoying apple can't find anything wrong with it. So I'm thinking of upgrading to the MacBook pro m2 16 inch. My reasoning is I won't have to buy another labtop for a very long time but is jumping to something so big overkill?

Hello, so I’m basically just looking to get something that’ll allow me edit RAW photos using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom without absurd buffering time. Additionally I’d like to be able to hop from one app to another : for instance basic office work, such as send emails, wrote/print documents etc, and then jump back into the Adobe photo suite without sluggish results. A good display is important to me as I am studying visual art and want to know that the colors I’m editing on screen are relatively accurate.
I don’t plan on doing any motion graphics or anything.
Does anyone have any advice for this use-case?
It seems that the Air M2 would be good but I’m not sure which processor configuration would be best for my needs.

A MacBook Air is more than enough computer for Computer Science students. You don't run the GPUs when you are building software. You don't run multiple CPU cores when building software. At most you use things like that when you are testing your software, but you will not be writing that sort of software in most or even any of your courses. An Air is also enough to learn video production and music production. Yes, really. Lots of video and music has been produced on Macs for decades. This means that work was done on far less capable computers than the current MacBook Air. Similarly, digital photography was just about invented on the Mac decades ago. The bottom line is any of the current Macs will work for learning purposes at College. Will a budge Air give you hardware bragging rights? Of course not. Should you get the minimum memory configuration for monetary bragging rights? Nope again. Once you have settled on a base model, you should get at least 16GB of RAM (aka unified memory) and 2X as much storage as you currently need due to how the macOS works and the reality of software and media bloat.

Good day... Loved the video. I am an engineering student who does programming, 3D modelling and rendering. Thing is I don't have a lot of money and my options are either the Acer Nitro 5 11400H with a 3050Ti or the M1 MacBook air.
The Acer Nitro 5 is good but it's battery is really not enough for me because electricity is erratic in my region but the battery on the M1 MacBook air is...
The M1 MacBook Pro is an option but it's price is inflated in my region to a ridiculous amount.

Hi, I’m currently studying a double degree in Spain, Computer Engineering + Mathematics. Actually, I’m using a MacBook Air i5 2015 xd. I think it’s time to change my apple device and I was between MacBook Air M2 or MacBook Pro M2, both with 256 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM. I was wondering whether it is more than enough to buy the MacBook Air or I would need the cooling system MacBook Pro M2 has. I’ve already watched this video and I’m more than shocked with the speed difference between MBA i5 2017 and MBA M2. I can’t imagine with my MBA i5 2015. My idea is to keep this new MacBook until the end of my career, so I would need an expert opinion before buying it.
