I lost touch with recent music. To make things short: Started listening to weekly charts and the radio around 1996/97. Early 2000s, I got a bit of money for buying a few albums, got stuff from school mates, mp3s, compilation CDs and the internet. I think at the end of the 2000s, my interest shifted from constantly finding new music (which takes quite some time) to just listening to the tons of good tunes I have already gathered. Also I didn't like the change in style that took place. In the 90s and early 2000s, styles were very much different. Britney Spears was pop, Black Eyed Peas was rap, Linkin Park was rock e.g. You couldn't even pretend to say they sound similar in like 2000 or 2002. Then everything became mixed together, EDM influcend mainstream pop.

Many of my former favorites changed style and I rather stuck with my favorite albums and songs than trying to more or less force myself into liking the 4th Linkin Park album or the latest Coldplay single because their old stuff was so much better. Mainstream pop became boring and was too much about selling sex and partying, so I stuck to the old stuff from like 1995-2005.

I like pop, though I'm totally into many many different styles of music. I'm honestly not sure why things suddenly changed? I hadn't been paying attention to recent "pop" releases of the 2010s and 2020s. Maybe I realized from watching a video once in a while that I liked the modern pop development. With Corona, I had a lot more time to listen to new music. And when I discovered the fantastic Benee two years ago, I fell in love with this so-called bedroom indie pop. It had all the elements that I like in music but it wasn't this radio superficial boring loud "look how well I can sing and how sexy I am" mainstream pop. Benee changed everything. Through similiar artists searches, I then discovered Clairo, Sycco, mxmtoon, Claire Rosinkranz, Hope Tala, JGrrey, Sigrid and Lolo Zoaui (okay, that's not indie, but I like some of her stuff) and there are also a couple of other (mostly) female indie pop singers on my pop playlists that I have yet to listen to more. It's a fantastisc time that it is relatively easy to find these alternative indie pop artists that make music that is well done but isn't radio fodder and does not feature the elements I dislike about mainstream pop. They mix exciting elements into this clean pop music and that is great. Especially the productions of Benee has revolutionized my entire perception of pop. So good, so much fun. I like the feeling of nostalgia, the vibe of albums of especially Clairo. Her singing isn't that important (though she has a nice voice).

Lol exactly how is Steve lacy bedroom pop.😂😂These vague names are also just being thrown around. Just say lo fi because that’s what it is. Bedroom pop is not a new thing is just a dummer vague name some people made up to refer to Lofi.

Here I was back in college thinking I discovered this one-of-a-kind artist, yet so many people in my school all "coincidently" found these seemly "obsure" musicians.

Bedroom pop and indie music are the reason why I still have faith in modern music
Soundcloud mumble rap was a tipping point for me in 2018 "talentless ppl making money for mumbling noises" but now that bedroom pop is slowly growing I can now say my faith is restored

P.s I love: Dayglow, wallows and clairo sm

love this video, great explanation and opinion about the genre, I first heard the term "Bedroom Pop" when my music producer friend described his music as it. Since then I've heard some great music that really resonates with me. I wanna throw my friend some love, try searching Lonely Gimmick - Blue Ticked Influencer , you may be in for a surprise
