Скорее всего, мой комментарий затеряется среди прочих, но всё же укажу на пару неточностей, потому что так и не увидел комментариев по этому поводу:
1) О погоде, вероятно, блоггерша судила по Питеру. Да, Питер славится переменчивой погодой, потому что это приморский город фактически. Москва (как и большая часть России) - относится к континентальному типу климата, поэтому погода там более стабильная, но зато более суровая: жара жарче, морозы морознее.
2) Пешеходная улица с сувенирами в Москве - это Арбат, а не Тверская. Собственно, видеоряд как раз таки с Арбата. Тверская же - это центральная улица с плотным траффиком круглые сутки. Гулять там не очень комфортно даже после реконструкции, но всё же посетить тоже можно.
(да, я один из тех русских с плохим знанием английского, поэтому пишу непонятной кириллицей. гугл-транслейт переведёт не хуже меня, если уж кому-то понадобится мой коммент под видосом трёхлетней давности)

All the other cities & towns of Russia are VERY CHEAP. I've spent many months in Russia and I personally would, if I were a tourist, avoid the big expensive cities of Moscow & St Petersburg. (Ditto for Kiev & Minsk). The price difference between the former Soviet capital cities and non-capital cities is HUGE. E.g., nice hotels for $20 per night instead of $80.
Almost no tourists go to those other cities. There is so much to see there, that no one ever sees!
Also: The trains between cities are great, and a real experience. Great way to meet Russians. Tickets are super cheap. You never need a car in the former Soviet Union.

Pick pockets and purse snatchers. I keep everything in a hip pouch with loops through the belt. And women, carry your purse in front of you, stomach/chest. Don't let it hang beside you with a strap over shoulder. Thieves can come up behind you, cut/snip the strap and away they go. Use a hip pouch etc. Not a big problem, but something to keep in mind.
