I’ve worked for parks and recreation who have hosted these re-enactors. They are nerds and history buffs. Didn’t see any white supremacy.

Authentic materials used, don't like beavers being killed but glad they are being recycled for this type of event.

This enthusiasm can be observed even today. We could see this especially in the last 20year of american invasions of other countries. I hope such activities will be adopted in 20 years inspired by americas wars of today.

Unless they’re using live ammunition it’s just dress up day for boys.

At the very end, when he says Americans are unlikely to repeat a civil war, he was right. 23 years later, and everything here now feels like tinder being collected and put in a box. This is a good reminder how quickly we can be divided. At the very moment when Australia's ABC came here in 1999 Newt Gingrich was just a few miles away completely rewriting the codes of conduct that had, for centuries, maintained civil relationships between the two political parties that make up our bicameral legislative system. republicans were by Gingrich's own decree no longer allowed to fraternize with their colleagues on the other side of the aisle. Just a few hundred kilometers north of him Australia's own Rupert Murdoch sat in his 6th Ave New York City offices meeting with Roger Ailes building the propaganda empire that would spend the next quarter century using it's lies to divide Americans. Not because they wanted to destabilize the world's oldest democracy but because they wanted to build an environment where the rich and corporations had no rules and could exercise their will freely and make profits no matter the cost to the public or environment. If nearly 250 years of American Democracy were thrown upon their pyre it didn't matter to them one way or another. They wanted to continue the transfer of wealth from the middle class to the ultra rich. Don't get me wrong, Democrats played a role here too. None of this would have been possible if Bill Clinton had not have signed Gingrich's Telecommunications Act of 1996 that destroyed the rules that had kept our media from becoming what Murdoch and Ailes have turned it into also changing the ownership rules that have allowed our "Fourth Estate" to be owned by a small handful of elites. Today, thanks to republicans, the greed of corporate elites, and, frankly, the simmering racism of the South American conservatives have been stoking for centuries, we are once again divided. We have a saying here in America, "We have faced worse times in the past and come out of it" American's love to say this as a way of making themselves feel better about the great unease from this tension we live in. Its true, we have come out of bad times in the past, but what worries me is those times when we survived great challenges of the past we were an ascending nation. We're not ascending anymore and haven't been since we made it to the moon. Right about the time Nixon employed his "Southern Strategy" that took advantage of ill will from the Civil War by stoking racism and building momentum for Gingrich, Murdoch, and Ailes to push us here to today.

I hope we get a resurgence in reenactors.
