Cutting ties with America is NOT Brexit thinking in the least.
This isn't Xenophobia!
It's VERY real self preservation.
I get that you're very politically savvy but, PLEASE, don't gaslight us Phil.

I don't usually disagree with you so actively Phil, but when pragmatism turns into appeasement, one needs to check one's fundamentals. No-one is saying to break completely with any country, but we need to be clear-eyed about the USA as much as Russia and China. They have to be respected but not trusted. Starmer has an impossible task but has to protect the UK as a priority and this means leaning away from the US unfortunately, until Trump is brought to heel or removed electorally

Hardly Brexit thinking. If memory serves, the EU wasn't imposing trade tariffs, threatening to forcibly invade a European territory or assisting a country that is now trying to invade a European country.

Poland was also considered an "artificial state" by Germany and the USSR, "a creation of the Treaty of Versailles". Has nothing really changed in 90 years? Will we have the same thing again? And on top of that, the US is spreading such a criminal narrative towards Ukraine. Incredible.

I am 76 years old. My family are refugees from Poland Czechoslovakia and the old south eastern part of Germany. Many millions fled this part of Europe because they did not want Russia to rule them. I still have some relatives in the now Czech Republic and I can tell you the sentiment regarding Russian leadership has not changed one jot. As far as Russian governance the president political system and regime is still the same as Stalin’s and cannot be trusted in any way whatsoever. If trump and his minions think otherwise they will be in for a rude awakening. So far Europe has been allies of the US, however trump has broken the trust and there really is no way of returning to the status quo. Europe has no other option to unite and build its own independent economy and military and build an impenetrable invisible and wall between the Russians and Americans. It can be Don and must be done. If the USA and Russia become allies. There is NO OTHER WAY. any individual or organisation that opposes such a plan should be class as a traitor like Mosley in the uk 🇬🇧 during WW2.

The cold hard fact is Trump is allied with Putin; Ukraine was a country before European's ever set foot in what is now the USA. Trump cannot be allowed to betray Ukraine like he betrayed the Kurds and Afghanistan as it will mean that Putin will be encouraged to think he can get away with invading other countries and a future war in Europe will be a certainty.

As I see this, it's only a matter of time before Trump not only stops all support to Ukraine but actually gives military support to Russia. THAT is a nightmare scenario, and one which nobody is even talking about - perhaps because it's unthinkable and terrifying that this could ever happen.

Let us also consider the extremely hostile rhetoric - and trade tariffs - which the USA under Trump is aiming at Canada, Mexico, Panama and Greenland. Most commentators are saying the Trump doesn't really mean it when he says he's not ruling out armed invasion. Frankly, I disagree - he means every word of it. I would not be at ALL surprised if the USA were to declare war on any (or all) of these countries.

We can only hope that anti-Trump sentiment both on the part of the US electorate but also the Pentagon and Wall St will overthrow Trump's evil regime before the mad bar steward plunges the world into another world war. There is also the prospect of a second American Civil War.

The Russian mess is a direct result of Putin. He's getting on a bit now. The American mess is a direct result of Trump. He's getting on a bit too, but obviously in rather bad physical condition, and mental state obviously. Both are in increasingly weak political positions. Two years and they'll both be dead. One way or another. Bit of a waiting game.

Behind Trump though is a supra-national oligarchy, some whom have expressed contempt for the concept of democracy, and quite probably espouse the view that the nation-state is also obsolete, as they can exercise control of any part of the globe, and indeed parts of space, all via the internet. Ukraine's of no more import to them than a splatted bug on their windscreen. No matter who claims title to it, it can be decomposed into a kind of exploitation-ready soup for the oligarchy.
