What is that you are using to control the effects of the mellotron ?

Today I tried a digital mellotron in physical format. The feeling that I have is that sounded so much better than this plugin. Is it placebo fx in your opinion?

I've A/B'd the Mellotron V with M-Tron Pro/Streetly Tapes and a 7 year old Mellotron. 1st place of course, went to the real Mellotron, followed very closely by M-Tron Pro. The Mellotron V came in 3rd. GForce doesn't hide the source of their samples like Arturia and other companies do. They readily admit that their samples came from Streetly Electronics, the company that developed the Mellotron in the 1960's. The Streetly Tapes were sampled from the output of the Skellotron, the most perfectly maintained M400-type Mellotron you can find anywhere, and was loaded with fresh, newly recorded tape. The Mellotron V samples sound somewhat muddy by comparison.

Honestly, to me it doesn't sound like they actually sampled a mellotron, but rather took a bunch of instrument samples and ran them through a tape saturation plugin. I mean, some of it sounds cool, but I feel like I could get the same thing by just using a normal sample library and screwing around with some free effects plugins. Also, it leans heavily toward the "harsh" side of the mellotron sound, as opposed to something smooth and rich like you hear on The Rain Song.
