such an amazing game, just the soundtrack alone pulls you back, love it.

These remasters feel mechanically bad, but are stylish and play nicely as a whole. I just finished Shenmue 2 on my PS4 Pro yesterday. Wooden mechanics, but creativity, good fighting, QTE you will hate (and repeat) and one of the kind atmosphere of adventure in the world of martial arts.

I prefer the DC shimmering than the bilineal solution which makes everything 2 meters away the camera too blurry.

Unfortunately the PC release has terrible stuttering that was never fixed. Literally every frame of animation has micro stutters/ frame pacing issues. They never fixed it.

I just purchased Part 1 and 2 Remastered versions as a bundle pack discounted for $4.49 in the Playstation Store on my Playstation 5. I already own Part 3, but it's also currently discounted for $2.99 their discounts will end on 3/16/23. They might be discounted on other systems, but I can't confirm that, sorry.

Shenmue was so far ahead of its time that it’s almost ridiculous. If you take a great game like Witcher 3 for example, then Shenmue was released 16 years earlier. 16 years!

I like the dreamcast version more because the higher resolution just shows how digital everything is, extremely sharp edges while the dreamcast version blurs the line of fake digital and real world painting. I find the mood of the visuals to play a stronger sense of the game with the dreamcast.

I just bought Shemnue 1 & 2 for £7.50 and Shenmue 3 for a fiver on ps store for my ps5. First time I’ve ever played this series and I am LOVING it!! My only gripe is that I don’t have time to read the displayed info on the loading screens due to them now only being around 3 seconds! 😆 not a bad gripe really

The PC version even to this day, suffers from frame drops. Reduced japanese audio quality. Cutscene camera angles get stuck. Crashes. Reduced music quality all around. 3.0 sound on shenmue 1

All things the consoles don't suffer.

Thank God they didn't mess up the HD version of shenmue like they did silent hill HD version of one and two. Who ever did these HD versions should been hired to do the silent hill 2 and 3.

Playing the original games on my 24" CRT, the graphics looked like the remaster. Modern, large HD TVs expose the flaws. Old CRTs would cover them up. Imagine how impressive these graphics looked 20 years ago. I was blown away.

The game finally was far from great, even struggled to be simply good. Not because of design or gameplay (this is something subjective as some may like its slow pace and some not). The problem is the infinite amount of bugs; from an abusive amount of people reporting not recognizing the controller (on PC and not even Xbox 360 controller) to training progression not being saved when the day changes, not to forget the enormous amount of graphic glitches (not present in DC/Xbox versions) and even more problems with sound. All those have been addressed only partially so there are still many people reporting them while they've been fixed for others. Literally Sega stopped launching patches less than 1 year after launch. And fans still wonder why it failed to success...again.
So no John, the best way to experience the game is still on Dreamcast and Xbox.

Dreamcast has a really nice clear quality to its graphics it’s really unique to that system hard to describe it but you always notice it with these Dreamcast remasters

Personally, i think lighting should have been MASSIVELY improved in this re-release along with the resolution of everything. It would have been a ton of work, but would have been well well worth it in the end...real-time lighting/shadows would have been nice too

The skybox moves around badly in the remaster. Clouds fly around really fast when turning the camera.

Played Shemue from steam and there is this weird white film that is really distracting. How would I get rid of it?

played shenmue 1 and 2 last week for the first time and finished them. the complete last part of shenmue 2 is one of the best ending parts that i have played in gaming. i love this series now and i am currently playing shenmue 3

I don't get bloom, man. Especially in this game, it really does just look like somebody smeared vaseline all over the camera lens.

I prefer Dreamcast graphics. Yes they may look a bit more blurry but I just like it, I dunno. It feels real to me. When you clean up old games and give them higher resolutions and whatnot...then you start seeing the wrinkles. Some of the magic is gone.

I remember sometime in 2006 I had a dream about playing an open world game set in Japan. When I woke up I had this one word in my head "Shenmue". The same day I started to look for a way to play this game and got myself a used Dreamcast. Maybe that’s why this game came to me in a dream :) I got myself both games and played them non stop for 2 weeks. For me never before or after there were better games.

I don't agree with the game not giving you access to a portable map. It's just a waste of time to have to awkwardly steer Ryo over to a map sign to take a look at the surrounding area every single time. I would have preferred it if the devs would have added a portable map item that Ryo could buy from the shop or something. Though, I AM fine with there being no quest markers. The notebook usually does a decent enough job of giving you hints. Also, I wish they would have overhauled the controls. I don't think the "pseudo tank" controls for this game work well. Pressing left or right doesn't turn Ryo left or right, but rather... they make him step forward and then to that direction, which causes me to constantly walk into and get stuck on walls and other objects. Oh, and the inability to fast forward time in the first game sucks. And sometimes the game can be just a little too obtuse. (though for me, personally this is generally caused from control issues. like Ryo not picking up important items when I examine a drawer on the first try, for instance.) Other then these complaints, I'm enjoying the game so far.

How many people still think its a HD version? ITS NOT - IT IS JUST A PORT.

The HD remaster looks better, yet I feel without the artifacts and slight blur it also feels a bit lifeless. Considering some of those assets look terrible when sharp and perfected. The older versions image artificially felt 'busier' even though it was just the artifacts.

Man I loved shenmue. Feeding that little cat tofu and talking to the old folks in the park.

They really should have given it a 4k patch on xbox one x it could have ran that easy
