the horse stall mats REEK. so much offgassing. i got one a year ago to try out and it's still offgassing. (i put it outside in front of the garage to let it do that but it consistently is noxious.) so, anyone who gets headaches easily.... i don't recommend.

This is buying EVERYTHING new. There's such better options, unless $ isn't a factor, which I'm guessing for the context of this video specifically, there is no roof to the budget. Personally, I got 552 select tech weights on marketplace for $180, an M5 max trainer(great cardio machine) in like new condition for $200, a major lutie cable cross over cage cage for $718 brand new and 245 lb of cast iron weights for $200. Barbell, squat pad and barbell locks will be another $100. But that's a complete home gym set up. I have it all set up in my garage. $350+ for rubber flooring though, That's steep by itself. If your not going to be covering your ENTIRE gym with the flooring, just use the foam stuff, it's cheaper and only needs to be placed in specific spots.

Is there any functional reason for choosing the hard chrome coating barbell over the other options? Or is it just price/esthetics?

We’re the 35’s actually green? I had 25’s from Walmart same brand and they are green… I need more but can’t find yellow 35’s anywhere. 😢

For flooring looking at repurposed materials could be a good place to look. I got a rubber mat that showed up pretty filthy, but once cleaned up it works pretty well. I think it was like 40-50 for like a 6 by 7 or 5 by 6 foot mat.

$850 gym set. Essential Bumper plate set 210# from Walmart $210. Rep 3100 $269 shipped from Rep. Amazon 770# 1/2 rack from Stozm w 4 plate holders, 1 bar holder, and 1 swivel bar holder think called a “landmine”? And has adjustable safety bars and J hooks coated with rubber or something similar $188. 7 foot Olympic bar from ET Energic with 205,000 tensile strength /1500# bar w needle bearings and brass races $139. All aluminum Rogue knock offs bar clasps $22. Total $825 plus tax approx $855.
Next is Tractor Supply 2x Stall mats 4x6 each for $100. IMO the best set up without a full cage under $1000

I think you forgot about plate storage. Also, I'd like to see you review some selectorized gym systems. I'm getting older and working out at home without a spotter can get sketchy. I'm a former football player, and I was always used to lifting heavy. Now that I'm in my mid 50's and lifting solo at home, I just don't want to tempt fate (I already aggravated the heck out of my tennis elbow doing heavy seated shoulder presses with dumbbells). That said, I purchased a used Body-Solid selectorized gym system and I absolutely love it. I'm investing in a leg press machine this week (again, selectorized) to be able to work my legs. Anyway, I'd love to see you review home gym systems from Body-Solid, Hoist, and French Fitness. I bet there are many folks out there wondering about these as well.

The shelf idea for powerblocks is an absolute fail. The weights have to be placed sideways on the shelf or they fall through the gaps. When placed sideways it makes the center of the shelf bow, and unable to change the weight because it's not on a level surface.

Spend the extra $60 and get a dumbbell stand.

Any ideas for someone who's currently been stuck in using the foam pads because all the rubber options seem to never stop smelling strongly, and the min home gym is half of a poorly ventilated home office/bed room? I want somehting better and more stable than the foam tiles but having the rubber smell in here when tried was awful even after leaving them out to offgass for weeks. :/

Brand New to working out... I'm gawking at the prices of just a set of 15 pound dumbbells on sale. They are like 30 bucks each.... No wonder why people have no problem paying for a gym at the price of machines..
