My friend, who is an animator, took me to a screening of this a few years ago. He was apologising for what he thought was an average film and I was absolutely besotted - it was fantastic!

it's true to some extend because japanese animation dare to put adult and serious theme like psychological, murder, gore and blood in a media what westerners said 'kids media' let's take example of '5 cm per second'. there's no way a 7 years old kid would understand the meaning of that movie except 'it's just a love story' toy story, on the other hand is for everyone, so they easily put what elementary kids know of.
