where did you find the internships?

1. Summer courses on the basics of programming (taught in Java)
2. MIT's Introduction to Algorithms
3. Learned Ruby (using The Pragmatic Programmer and Project Euler ) and RubyonRails (using Rails for Zombie)
4. Worked on personal projects (among them being 'Reddit for Japan')
5. Didn't shy away from asking for help
6. Got internships AND built more personal projects
7. Practiced for technical interviews

You are NOT a sofware engineer unless you really studied in university an "engineering" degree. What you are is a software developer or coder. Now that doesn't mean you are bad or something you might be brilliant but still engineer is someone who studied engineering really and graduated successfuly. Would you call someone a physician who never graduated a medical school?, that's ridiculous! It is exactly the same.
Some people nowadays do some 3 months course and call themself engineers which is an illusion.
