Whole situation is wild and scary, but the part that hit the most was him talking about how scary it would be, how bad it would knowing how much time you have left. Oh youre gonna die in one hour. Imagine those thoughts. Underwater, in darkness. Insane.

So how did his buddy get out? Did he untangle himself?

I sort of remember this story from when he originally told it but I was listening to YMH today and Dan Soder mentioned it so I decided to go back and listen again. Listening to it now and having a daughter myself, it scares the fuck out of me. I can imagine that level of panic and the fact that he got out is just so amazing

This is such a horseshit story lol. Way too many holes and he broke a lot of basic rules of cave diving. Also, there’s no “save yourself, I’m coming home” rule. If your buddy is stuck you try and assist them. If you get close to your reserve tank, there is a point you must leave and find better help or both of you are gonna end up in a body recovery mission.

And that's why I don't go cave diving! I've been lost on land before without water and that was scary enough! The panic when you realise that you don't know where you are is hard to fight. I was crashing through bamboo cutting myself up whilst trying to tell myself to calm down. So being underwater in that situation being lost but knowing that the way out is not too far and panicking was an insane story. Glad that one had a happy end as many don't! Great interview!

Didnt he have a 3rd air tank? I might have enjoyed the story more if the facts added up and he saved the f this f that for when it mattered.

After almost thirty years working in underground coal mines and some terrifying experiences with smoke and water, I can relate. I just don’t understand why people would put themselves in a situation like this for fun lol. This creeps me out.
