It just occured to me why I have so many Dave W videos saved in my "drumming" YT playlist. I've watched a ton of drumming videos and am a drummer myself. I realize how great Steve Gadd is, Vinnie C., Bernard Purdie, Dennis Chambers, etc.. are. But have you ever noticed how when they do a solo, they sorta fall back on a certain groove that they've done over and over and over? They can play anything and make it sound great. But their solo's feel same-y. But with Dave W, his solo's don't have a sameness to them. He's always changing it up, it's always so clean and effortless, and something new to see with every song.

I used to listen to a lot of Dave Weckl stuff and i liked it better from year to year.
It used to be a bit "overcomplicated" back then when i was young, about 30 or so years ago, but by now he's a groove monster, extremly tight in the pocket, spot on timing and i'd say Dave got better and better over the years.

Like a foreposter called it "like a great old wine"! That nails it.

Technically being already superb in his young years, it sounded not as damned good as it does now. I lack the words to describe it properly.

It moves me deeply, i'm exicted and delighted! ❤❤❤

Dave's supernatural command of time and coupling it with something akin to silky stylistic phrasings that are incomprehensible to mere mortal drummers is astonishing. Sometimes all you can do is say "Wow".

I always like it when he smiles after his solo. Usually after his bandmates react - he does it here and in his PAS solo with Oz Noy. He can look so serious at times you worry he isn’t having fun - when he smiles he clearly is having a good time.

Dave Weckl is the most musical drummer in the universe! Privileged to see him several times at Yoshi's in Oakland (also a small venue). And he doesn't break a sweat!

I have to say, I've bee watching Dave since he put out that (yes, VHS) tape on "Back to Basics" and he was awesome then and he's aged like fine wine and is even better now. He has a. Retain groove that really most of us drummer really aspire to be. Great entertainer and artist. Never gets old. Thank you for sharing that talent so we can learn and enjoy!

He always has the best sounding kits! Easily my favorite drummer. His pocket and feel is so incredible. Dude blows my mind every time. Big props to that bass player too for holding that pocket down!

After his departure from the Chick Corea Electric Band, man, he changed course to more Groovy kind of thing and bluesy too.
