Upper Endoscopy for GERD: Best Practice Advice from ACP

I kind of disagree with his advice, if you have severe heartburn or gerd over long periods you should definitely get a scope!

Just had an endoscopy with no sedation just a throat spray. Really nothing to worry about. Yes its strange but not painful is just a 5min procedure.

Not gonna lie to y’all i had an Upper Gi done by a surgeon in February and to be honest my neck has this weird pain everyday now I’m 28 years old i was having symptoms and consulted a doctor i work with actually I’m not anything special in the field I’m just a guy who got hired in a hospital but i work around a lot of docs and just do what i need to do never really paid attention to them as specialist as in what they specialize in all i know is had pain that wasn’t going away it was freaking me out because there’s usually never anything wrong with me i didn’t even have a PCP until this year but long story short i let a surgeon scope me and not a GI doctor months later my throat just doesn’t feel the same it’s just always a odd feeling in my neck and i do smoke marijuana i usually cough when i smoke but now it’s so odd i don’t cough anymore if i do happen to smoke but this tightness in my throat just always there i drink tea everyday i sleep up right it seems like i have no cough reflex at times if i get a weird tickle in my throat i make myself cough but i ended up speaking with a GI doctor and he told me he wouldn’t have scoped me he thinks i should’ve changed my diet and loose weight he asked how old i was i said 28 he said you mean 19 😂 just clean up your eating the surgeon told me i have gastritis but the GI told me we all have gastritis it’s a Bs diagnosis so now my stomach feels much better but at the cost of my neck and throat i can’t even explain how it feels but it’s just discomfort every single day sometimes my voice feels weak and i feel i can’t control my voice as well I’m a silly guy i do voice impressions i listen to a lot of music so i sing singing feels like i have to try now it’s not just effortless i wish i never did it but anxiety and fear will make you feel and do crazy things now I’m stuck and quiet frankly it just makes me sad 😭 moral of the the story don’t see surgeons for your GI ISSUES

Do they actually see inflammation caused by GERD? That is how it is diagnosed? My endoscopy was normal and I have chest pains (non cardiac) and regurgitations.

What a brilliant video . Great advice, simple and practical.

What I don't understand is why wait for symptoms such as throwing up, rapid weight loss, bleeding, etc. (which typically occur after the later progression of a disease) for an endoscopy instead of addressing constant discomfort/pain by getting eyes on the issue during the early stages of a potentially malignant event? It seems irresponsible to essentially tell the general public not to concern themselves with what the ACP would consider as "less concerning" symptoms when clearly the body is negatively responding to something. I would imagine most would agree that with the increasing rate of malignant gastroesophageal events particularly in younger people would prove for the need of such procedures.

GERD is related to SIBO. Please check ur self and test ur self. It’s an small intestinal bacterial over growth. It’s something that GI docs do not test for. GERD is related to SIBO. GI docs suck.

I had to do this but I was knocked out. I had some pain after it was over that lasted a day or so. It looks a lot scarier than it actually was and I got a packet of pictures of my intestines which was interesting. I had to do it because I needed tissue biopsied.
